It is not to accurate with the ambient heat but internal readings are good. Also disconnects from base frequently even when it is very near the probe.

Thank you for your review of the MEATER Pro. The ambient sensor is used to calculate the cooking time of the meat, and it measures the air temperature surrounding the meat. If you put a cold piece of meat in the grill/oven appliance, it cools the air around the piece of the meat, causing a cool air bubble. As the meat cooks, the bubble will reduce and the ambient reading will be closer to the appliance's set temp. Inaccurate readings can be caused by placing the probe too far into the meat can cause the ambient end to touch the meat and cool down the sensor readings. If the Probe Is connected but often drops while in use, it can be a range issue. Check out the videos below that go over ambient temperature and range expectations. We bought a Meater Pro to help with the Thanksgiving turkey this year. I think an under-appreciated benefit is the ability to dynamically adjust cooking temperature to meet a desired completion time. We had a schedule for when guests would arrive and be served. I was able to modify the oven temperature between 325 and 350F in order to pretty much nail a time that the bird would be ready. Of course, the results were great as well - cooked to perfection.
I have an original Meater and now the Meater Pro.The Pro has a lot of improvements. It is much thinner so can be used on thinner cuts of meat. Multiple sensors and the software gives you the temperature of each sensor. I definitely feel the higher max temperature is a big improvement
Of course, duh, the meater allows you to verify that you have cooked your meet to the desired temperature. And further, this is accomplished with an EXCELLENT and easy to use app interface that accurately and precisely tells you when to remove from heat and the appropriate stand time. I usually cook with charcoal or wood in a Weber or over a camp fire, what I did not expect was how dynamically and accurately the Meater adjusts the estimated cook duration based on how fire is going. It gives you much better and more accurate forecast that informs you on how to adjust the coals so you can better hit a targeted completion time.
This is a very subpar product. The bluetooth doesn't work when my grill is closed. During cooks I receive incessant notifications from the app, constant unnecessary information. The method of inserting the probe in the thickest part and removing the meat from the heat so that it reaches the safe temperature while resting is clever, but if you miss the thickest part of the meat at all you will not have cooked the food all the way through safely. And finally, this is not suitable for checking the temperature of thin cuts of meat, or even thick smaller items like a meatball. I regret the purchase and returned this.

Thank you for your review of the MEATER Pro. Before returning your MEATER we would recommend visiting the Wizard on our support page https://support.meater.com/helper The Wizard will help guide you to the needed self-help articles and also give you the contact information to chat/talk with one of our friendly and knowledgeable agents who can assist you with these issues. Environmental factors like heavily insulated cooking appliances will affect the range of the probe. The key to successfully staying connected is keeping the charger as close as safely possible to the probe during a cook. If you need more range and have access to an extra phone or tablet, we have 2 free services called MEATER Link and MEATER Cloud. Check out this support article that goes over the range of the MEATER https://support.meater.com/faqs/meater-bluetooth-range along with these videos explaining the range and MEATER link and Cloud. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INWvpspwrwc&list=PLVr0FnN9Zx8UbCkSZRcebkUawRq3zOFc6&index=17 https://youtu.be/iP0mt7IcAoM
Would not buy again. I step into the house and it loses range.
