Ventilation does not work and is impractical .

Venting feature is stupid and useless. Does not keep inner cylinder odor free at all. Have to leave door open all the time when not in use to keep it from the musty and moldy odors that are pervasive when this is not done. Going to have to buy a wash bar for it. Ridiculous. This is not even the model that I wanted in the first place. No more GE laundry machines for me... This thing is 2 months old.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We recommend cleaning the wash tub regularly to avoid any odors in your front-load washer. Dry around the washer door opening, flexible gasket (including attached hoses) and door glass. These areas should always be clean to ensure a watertight seal. You will notice if you regularly use the ULTRAFRESH VENT System that this will not be required as often. It is however recommended to rinse the washer at least once per month with 1 cup of bleach (or other commercially available product manufactured for this purpose, such as Tide® Washing Machine Cleaner) poured directly into the basket without clothes and using the Self Clean Cycle.

Incredible!!! The GE washer has far surpassed all previous washers we have owned!! Finally a front load that vents itself-and does a good job! Capacity has adapted to everything we have washed! Numerous cycle choices allows better adaptation to fabrics-LOVE how well every load looks, smells and feels after cycle completion.

This washer is awful. It makes a deafening noise when spinning. It sounds like a gunshot when the water supply turns off and the door latch release is extremely loud too. It shakes violently during spin cycle no matter the size of the load. Service has been out and they didn't do anything about the issue.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We would like to help you with the sound level of your washer. We recommend ensuring the load is balanced, as unbalanced loads can cause the cycles to be louder than normal. You can balance your load by pausing the unit, opening the door, and manually redistributing the load. To check the machine, run a rinse and spin cycle with no clothes. Additionally, make sure the unit is properly leveled to the floor by pushing and pulling on the back right and then back left of your washer to check if it is level.
