Am I missing something

I'm sorry that your experience fell short of expectations. It sounds like you are having trouble getting your Nikon Z8 to recognize the T9 SSD as an external capture device. Unfortunately, the Nikon Z8 does not support direct recording to an external SSD via USB. The camera's USB-C port is primarily for data transfer and power delivery, not for direct recording.

You never know what can happen with your device and sometimes I don't pay for the extra storage on my phone, so this is such a good thing to have. It's good to know all my memories are protected!
