My goal was to find a decent camera backpack to hold my Nikon D500 with my Sigma 150-600 Contemporary Lens attached. The 20L does do just that. In fact, it holds my extra batteries, my 35mm lens, my charger, my camera strap, my .380 and an extra mag, my 13" MacBook Pro, my coffee thermos (on the inside), by water bottle (on the outside), and it has plenty of room to spare.

Fantastic engineering, but still can be improved

I write this review from the standpoint of a overall pleased user. This has been the best photography backpack I have ever owned. It is well-built, logical in construction, and is easy to access. I can even put it down and not worry about it falling over.
That said, I have some small gripes.
1. PD does not offer a good two-camera solution, for those of use who use two cameras simultaneously. The only way to really use two cameras is to hold one on a capture clip, ideally on the shoulder strap, and use the other camera. But the capture clip does not easily fit on the straps, and if the bag has weight, it will sit a little too high for the best mounting spot. (Also, a loaded clip makes it difficult to take the bag off to get other gear.)
2. The belt is underwhelming. Also, related to #1. It's hard to reach when switching lenses.
3. Since I use the bag for everything, I put flashes in the top. I would appreciate a drawstring inner mesh to make sure that things don't fall out when I whip that bag around to get out new gear. As a PJ, things move fast. If that drawstring mesh could be stowed out of the way, it wouldn't annoy other users who don't feel that it is necessary.

Best bag ever!

I was skeptical at first why it was so expensive, and was worried that it might wear down, but with the lifetime warranty and house food it is, you can't go wrong. I'm a student, and it's perfect. It fits everything I need, and when I have to bring an especially large textbook or notebook, it expands no problem. In my opinion, but this bag, and never but a bag again.

As a messenger bag and back-pack "junkie...I have been the owner of Manhattan Portages, Timbuktus, NorthFace, Jansport, Tumis, and so much more...I use my bags daily and put them through the grind...but the Peak Design bags have stood the test of time and still look amazing after years of use! I have both a Peak Design Messenger Bag and Peak Design backpack and I swear by them...they have served me well and I can't think of any other bag to use...except a Peak Design bag...highly recommend for those looking for a quality, durable, sustainable, designed and made in the USA kinda bag!

Best bag EVER
on March 15, 2021

I bought V1 of this bag over 5 years ago and it looked as new the entire time (I do take care of my stuff, but this bag definitely took care of itself too).
I gave this bag to my son and got the V2.
SO well built, practical, travels well (i'm mostly travelling globally), and I love the expandable top.
I've bought several bags from other manufacturers and NOTHING has been as ease and versatile as this bag... from day to day use, to full camera shoots on the move.
I love PD and what they are creating in all ways.
How does it get even better?!

Most thoughtfully designed backpack I've ever used

This is flat out the best backpack I've ever used. Allows me to constantly have my camera everywhere I go. The modulatory nature of the backpack works great to use it to hike, strolling around the city, and taking it to work. I was originally skeptical if it was worth the price since this was the most I've ever spent on a backpack; I can't stress enough how worth it this backpack is.

I have had the 30 L bag for about a month now. I take it on car camping trips with the carbon fiber tripod. Exquisite pairing. Anywhoo, this has protected my camera & other stuff from dust, rocks, etc and does not show any wear! This is not a camping/backpacking bag (peak design please design one! There are no backpacking packs I would buy right now designed with cameras in mind - maybe partner with osprey). However, the 30 L is big enough to pack for an overnight trip with my sony a6000 w/ 2 standard lenses, cleaning supplies, remote control, some charging cables for phone, snacks, water, toothbrush and toothpaste, and maybe an extra pair of underwear and socks. I have not yet used the laptop compartment because I am not traveling much (thanks covid).
As a day bag 100% best camera bag I have ever tried to use. The design is engineered perfectly, peak design meets all expectations.
The only negative thing I can say is this: the hip strap should come standard, and it would be really cool to see some type of load lifter function to adjust the load distribution on the shoulders. That will make it more comfortable for waking trips/hiking. Even with that, it is still not something I would use for backpacking /camping if I must bring only 1 bag. So if that's not what you're looking for, this bag is for you.
