You never know what you got until it's gone

Great design + great lifetime warranty makes Peak Design's prices well worth it. They upgraded me to a V2 since they no longer had the V1 in stock. Unfortunately, they didn't have my original color so I chose the Coyote X-Pac color.
I took the V1 everywhere with me. Biking and hiking in the rain and snow, trekking through mud and dirt while loaded up with clothing, camera, and camping gear, using it as quick weekend bag, and lugging it to work and home. It held up well over the several years I had it and it cleaned up easily.
When Peak Design told me they were gonna upgrade me to the V2, I was excited. I own several other Peak Design products that have lasted me years and show little signs of wearing out. I have no reason to doubt the longevity of the V2.
The backpack sleeve and pocket are much improved. The pocket even has two smaller pockets to organize your stuff better.
The hook strap design feels much better. I really like how they added hook points to the top flap so when you fill up all 30L of this backpack, you can use the hook straps to hold down the top flap
The magnets to hold the straps in place was a great choice. I used to hate how the straps would just hang wildly whenever I slipped the backpack onto a suitcase
However, the V2 just feels clunkier overall and somehow smaller. Initially, I questioned whether I was accidentally sent the 20L instead of the 30L. The side zippers can't open up as much as the V1. The side flaps can no longer lay flat when open. This also makes swinging the bag around to access the interior compartments from the sides feels cumbersome. I'd much rather take the bag off and set it down on something
The straps are not very comfortable and I would probably not enjoy wearing it for more than an hour. I'm just being picky here, but the magnets on my bag might also be slightly misaligned because I cannot get the straps to lock in criss-cross formation without really having to pull down on the straps, but then it doesn't stay locked in anyways.
The side pockets for bottles and tripods is a bit difficult to put stuff in as it gets very tight towards the bottom, and the fold of the fabric also blocks the way. I don't know if it's an X-Pac thing or design thing, but I have to reach my hand in to move the fold out of the way to fully slide in a 12oz can.
The V1 had a well-hidden and sturdy interior front pocket to hide things like a wallet, passport, and airtag. Even sometimes I forgot the pocket was there because it's not easy to see. I'm pretty sure Peak Design made a point to use that in their marketing. The V2 version is now very obviously an elastic pocket and I can see the outline of the sticker they put in there.
The interior side pockets are not great either. I think the idea was to be able to access the top pockets from the top, but I find that some things I put in there tend to fall out into the main compartment or when I open the sides anyways. The organization of the interior pockets on the V1 is also sorely missed. I used to be able to easily organize all my pens, markers, tools, storage media, first aid, and more in those pockets.
The coyote color is more like a shiny gold in the daylight. And it is really shiny. The photos don't make the sheen apparent. Had I known, I wouldn't have chosen it.
While some of the new design choices are great, it's quite unfortunate to have lost so much of what made the V1 a great everything bag.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The one bag to rule them all!

My favourite bag by far! I had the V1 since 2019, using it every single day to commute to work, a few overseas trips and even mountain bike rides for photo shoots on the trails. Super comfy to carry around, even with heavy 16" laptop, camera and a couple of lenses.
I love the organisation shelves, once you figure out the way you like your geer, its as simple as set and forget, I've set those shelves once and thats how they been ever since. Side pockets is a breeze to get the camera out of the bag without having to put the bag on the ground, very handy when swapping lenses too.
After 6 years of solid use, one of the side straps broke, and thats when they (Peak Design) blew my mind, messaged warranty, said I know my bag is 6 yrs old and it's done what i was supposed to do can I have a discount to buy another one (as I absolutely love this bag)? Less than 24hr later I had a brand new warranty replacement bag at my door!!!!! Absolutely incredible service! I couldn't praise them enough. If every company on earth had the same level of support they do, the World would be a better place.

Elegant but poorly designed water bottle holders
on June 16, 2025

I love the versatility and elegance of this backpack. I use this mainly for two purposes: bringing my camera and water bottle while hiking, and carrying my flight gears.
I take one star off because of the very poorly designed water bottle holders. They are way too tight!!!!! I bruised my knuckles and scraped my cuticles just trying to jam in an 18oz standard sized water bottle. I owned an osprey and Patagonia backpacks with water bottle holders that are so joyful to use: they are deep mesh with extra straps to tighten if needed.
Please please please fix the design of the water bottle holders!! I just came back from a trip to the national parks with this backpack and came home with bruised and bloody cuticles because I fought to jam my water bottle into the water bottle holder. This is very aggravating. I will try to fix it by replacing the elastic but I may need to sell it off.
Taking another star off because the laptop compartment is also way too tight. Struggled to fit in an iPad Pro 12.9 inch with a clam case, making it impossible to put anything else in other pockets.

Great, just a shame downgrade from V1

I have the Everyday 30l backpack from V1 and we are very satisfied. The backpack is durable and suitable for everyday use and photography. There is no need for a Cube for everyday things and I don't have to be afraid to just throw cookies etc. into the backpack - it won't fit anywhere, unlike Travel or Outdoor. At the same time, it has great joints on the back.
I have to admit that the V1 was overall better designed, especially the pockets on the sides were well thought out and sophisticated. The loop for a bike light is also great.
V2 has a more discreet design (better for me). More durable back system. It has simplified pockets on the sides (too much, a minus for me), better pockets for NTB/documents. Internal lens organizers get dirty more easily and tear faster. It allows you to buy a waist belt, which is great (unfortunately compared to the 45l without a pocket).
I don't think the back system is optimal for both versions of the backpack, but I guess it's a tax for a city backpack.
I hope that V3 will bring back more articulation on the sides, an eye for attaching a light (it was amazing for cycling, walking, etc. at night), a better hip belt (can be hidden like the Travel, pocket, etc.) and a back system and opening the back while maintaining entry from the top (a combination of the Everyday 30 and Travel 30).

Endgame Bag

This bag really can do everything: hiking pack, commuter, backpacking Europe, camera bag, around town bag, diaper bag - and I've done all of those (except the last one, though I've heard friends use it that way). Super extendable, super handy, and the right mix of structure/organization when you want it and 'big dumb bag' when you need it. Can even use the back pocket for a water bladder if you're really going after it. 10/10

Great EDC backpack
on June 20, 2025

I've had this backpack for over a year, use it most days for my EDC and it's a really great pack. The internal flex dividers are ace and allow for multiple configurations and I can generally get everything I need for the day in to it. Always have a camera and lens, room for a weather proof jacket, it's the UK after all. I can switch between MacBook Pro 14 or my iPad, depending on travelling heavy or light. Quality seems spot on, no issues with zips, no tears or breaks.
I find the base weight is slightly heavy with nothing in it and the straps can take a bit of adjusting to get super comfy. They're just niggles though, nothing that stops me using it daily.

I might finally be happy

Having come from the 6sling in coyote. I kept catching myself relying on the capture clip to STUFF everything I could in. Which then made that uncomfortable. Decided to bite the bullet on this bag and holy smokes....its SOOOO comfortable. I know some people say it isnt, Im not sure why not. I did get the waste strap as well which makes a big difference. I have not tested it in the rain which will be the big thing for me and I pray it passes that.

This is my favorite bag ever! I love all of the pockets, magnetic attachments, and additional features this bag offers. I also love the side access on both sides.
