Good device but terrible battery life.
on December 19, 2023

I like the device but the battery only last 3 weeks before i had to recharge it. Having to recharge it this often is not great compared to the couple years I'd have to recharge my old school keypad. The recharging process isn't difficult but it also isn't as easy as it should be. Why not have an option to hard wire it if you know the battery life would be this bad? Because of the poor battery life i cannot recommend this.

Poor battery design is a significant issue.

I loved this device until the first time that I had to charge the battery. Unlike many of the people who wrote reviews, I was able to make it well over a month without charging. While I suppose that should make me happy, I’m not because I expected it to last much longer. Even worse, the tiny screw that one must remove is simply a ridiculous way to have to access the battery given the frequency this must occur. It would have been so simple to put an exterior charging port on the unit with a weather-proof cap. This would have allowed users to charge the battery without removing it. Chamberlain could have also designed this so the battery could have been removed without removing the entire remote or having to use a tiny screw. For example, a panel housing the battery could have been attached with a hidden thumbscrew that would be retained to the base unit when it was unscrewed. Honestly, I’m struggling to understand how this could have come to market with such a poorly conceived charging procedure.
It makes me mad that I’m either going to have to get a different kind of remote or purchase a second battery so I don’t have to go 10 hours without a functional remote every time I need to charge the battery. If I do the latter, I’ll also end up having to buy a bag full of extra screws for when I inevitably lose the one that came with the unit.
I recommend that Chamberline seriously consider selling these until they have a better design and offer a refund to anyone who purchased one of these.
Pros: Sturdy, Stylish

Hi David, thank you for your review and feedback on the myQ Video Keypad and battery. I am sorry to hear about your experience and to see that this product did not meet your expectations.

To maximize the battery life of your myQ Video Keypad, we recommend setting your Motion Sensitivity Meter to either the low, or lowest setting. This will ensure your keypad is only capturing events immediate to your garage door proximity.

Wi-Fi signal strength also plays a significant factor in the battery life performance of your device. You can view your Wi-Fi network strength in the myQ app under the Video Keypad Device Management Settings section.

There are several ways to improve your Wi-Fi connection for your device, including moving your router closer to your device or purchasing a Wi-Fi extender. The myQ Video Keypad must be within 50 feet of your Wi-Fi router if it is broadcasting a 5GHz signal. If you connect to a 2.4GHz signal, your router can be up to 150ft in distance. To ensure best performance, it is recommended to have your myQ Video Keypad connected to a 2.4GHz network. If you're still having issues, please get in touch with us at support.chamberlaingroup.com

I will be sure to share your feedback with our product team for future enhancements. Please feel free to reach out with any further suggestions or assistance with troubleshooting.

Should these settings already be in place, and you need further help, have any comments, concerns or questions, please email us at social@chamberlain.com and mention this review, so we can get in contact with you to resolve the issue. Thank you!

Shopping experience was fine, but Battery is overpriced and doesn't last long enough, especially in cold weather I only get two weeks! Also, I ordered just a battery but you sent me an entire keypad. Weird.
Pros: easy to install, WiFi Capable

Hello Hugh, thank you for your review and feedback on the myQ Video Keypad and battery. I am sorry to hear of your experience and that this product did not meet your expectations.

The myQ Video Keypad is tested to operate at -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C. Cold temperatures directly affect lithium-ion batteries such as those used in the myQ Video Keypad. Your myQ Video Keypad battery can experience issues holding a charge and may even enter Low Power Mode during cold days. You may Recharge your battery in a room temperature environment to prevent battery damage. Ensure the battery is charged completely prior to returning it outside during cold weather days.

Garbage battery

Put this at my Mom's house to help monitor the driveway for safety. The battery dies quickly and I'm paranoid about stripping the screw. I feel like getting rid of this set up and going with a direct wired Ring camera mounted on the garage somewhere for security and not having another "to do" on my task list in maintaining two houses. This is a very bad design. it's as if it was designed by people who think that consumers have plenty of time to disconnect the thing every 3-4 weeks.
Pros: WiFi Capable

Terrible battery life

The video keypad has two major issues. First is a terrible battery life and when the battery goes dead, you have to unscrew the keypad to take the battery out to charge. The second problem is that when the garage doors down it won’t raise the garage door it works fine when the garage door is up but not when it’s down I have full bars for the connection and the video is fine but I can’t open the garage door, so it is worthless to me.
Pros: Sturdy, WiFi Capable
