Great Gaming Device, for savvy PC users

In comparison to the first ally: Better battery life: 1.5 hrs more playing Last Faith and about 30-40 minutes more playing Elden Ring at 900p 18watt tdp with low/medium settings. Screen is brighter and better contrast. Sound is louder and more full .Performance was negligible, if you dont compare FPS counter it'll honestly feel the same. Slightly better to hold due to slight ergonomic change but otherwise feel the same. Only a little heavier
What it'll really come down to is that if you like having the latest and greatest and have the money to spend, sure grab this one. But if you already have the first ally and works great i'd keep it. The value isnt great ($699CAD on sale V.S $1099CAD) i would maybe wait for a sale

Hello! I took a decade break from home computing, smart phones covered my needs. Previously I enjoyed lots of PC gaming. I received short notice that a position I wanted specifically required a windows machine.
I consulted my guru and knew immediately that this was my first choice. I compared the Lenovo, the steam deck and the two Allys.
The Lenovo didn’t appeal to me. The removable controls were nice but the shape, thickness and controls didn’t “fit” hands in any immediate way. It seemed like plenty as a system but it didn’t appeal to me.
The steam deck was a beautiful machine. It had a smooth joystick feel and the catalog of games was solid. The small touchpads near where each thumb sits was so sharp. It didn’t offer the systems I would need for the position or I’d have gotten it based on price.
The Ally and the Ally X were both very similar to the Steamdeck for hand feel. The included game system(the crate?) is nearly seamless to the steam, Xbox and Battle.net services. The battery on the X was compelling and what I purchased.
I brought it home and was impressed and didn’t really do much with it. I played some games and explored using it as a TV computer peripheral. That’s what convinced me the unit was incomplete as sold. It’s worth noting that it is a challenge to use. My PC knowledge is dated and I was forced to google more than once while using the Ally x. This was as much about the size of the display as anything.
I was having input issues, the screen was too small and I couldn’t even plug in the hard drive that was suggested with the Ally X!(the ally X only has USB C without a hub.) I was getting frustrated. I wanted the amazing portability but the size was making it difficult to learn my device! I spent awhile looking at peripherals and what I needed to use the Ally X as a complete computer, then I did the same for maximizing its portability.
To really excel, it’s the connections that make the Rog Ally X. I got a fancy little hub from the included deals. It allowed me to plug the Ally X into my TV, add a full sized mouse/keyboard combo(I got the Pebble 2, it’s a good size, big enough but similar size to the decide for transport. I also have a full size KB) and still charge the unit. I also grabbed their deal on the terabyte hard drive.
That’s when I got excited.
Now my Ally X is the heart of my super computer. I’ve got the big tv looking shark as my display. An Xbox style controller. The Hub. My mouse/keyboard combo. The terabyte hard drive. I found my old external Sata/usb controller and might hunt down old disk and hard drives. You know my steering wheel controller from a decade ago was an easy install.
I also ordered a DJ2GO2 portable mixing station. I am not a DJ and ears will bleed. I couldn’t be happier.
I was done turning my big remote control into a super skukem system! It was time to address portable aspect. I ordered a soft silicon sleeve and will be purchasing a case that accommodates the Ally X, speakers and the DJ2GO2. I’ll make sure the hard case can also fit the mini keyboard and mouse unit I ordered. The Roccio(?) is a tiny little unit with a built in touchpad mouse. It’ll allow me to avoid using the on screen keyboard(personal preference. The on screen control isn’t bad, just not my liking.)
I really am pleased with this little but potent computer!

Believe or not, I tried 3 different units, and all of them had the same issue which seems to be s hardware problem. Basically, it keeps on crashing to a black screen, refer to the Reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/ROGAllyX/s/XX7FyiAjvs
All 3 units I got had the same issue and it’s increasing by the day the number of users reporting the same problems.

Performance Powerhouse with some battery limitatio

I’ve been using the Asus ROG Ally X for two months now, and it has been an impressive gaming companion. This device has consistently delivered smooth and immersive gameplay with titles like Call of Duty, Lies of P, Elden Ring, and FIFA 24, all running flawlessly without any lag or overheating issues. The display is vibrant, and the controls feel responsive and comfortable, making it a top-tier handheld for a variety of gaming experiences.
While the battery life could be better—it runs for about 1.5 hours on a full charge, which is short of the expected 3 hours—the performance makes up for it. This minor downside is understandable given the device’s powerful specs and graphics capabilities. I’ve found that keeping a power bank handy or staying near a charging point helps mitigate this.
Overall, the Asus ROG Ally X is a great device for portable gaming but it should have a better battery life.

So expensive and its for a piece of plastic but! WORTH IT! Games are epic. i do have to admit it does get hot very often. And usually while playing a game I leave it on a dock with fans so it helps. I'd definitely recommend Rog Ally X 2024.
