We have built many Lego sets over the last couple of years and never had a problem with pieces not staying connected. On this Lego set many pieces fell apart at the slightest touch or pressure while trying to add a different piece. We had to take apart a large section of the boat to replace a piece that had fallen out during building due to its instability. Several times we had to do the same thing with other parts of the set to ensure it wouldn’t fall apart when we moved it. It is an incredible design and we love the movie, but found this set to be frustrating.
This is a cool idea and the design details are great. Where it falls short is the bow cannot be made without super glue. There are these tiny blue pieces that are supposed to hold the whole thing together. Spoiler: it can’t work that way with gravity. Very sad to have to use super glue on these pieces :(
This set needed to be spend more time in the design lab before release. It is an incredibly fragile build. The bow especially is a tedious experience. For the cost, this needed to bei much better. I recommend gluing some of the more problem areas together (you will quickly figure out which ones those are) which should never be the case for a Lego set.
I am an experienced LEGO builder. I have built both Disney Castles! And 100's of other sets.
I am now complete and hate this set.
1) The shark's (Bruce) tail will not stay on. Why did you design the set where the tail falls off so easily? It would not have taken many pieces to make that more secure. And easy to remove if you want to display the shark on the water base.
2) The boats bow keeps coming apart. It is very loose, and I rebuilt the front several times trying to improve it.
3) The rigging - I can't keep the rigging lines on the boat. There should be an attachment piece above the wheel of the pully system that helps hold it in place.
4) When I got to the last bags, the instructions in the app did not tell me to open both of the last two bags at the same time. Poor instructions.
5) I have no clue how to attach the boat to the water base without it easily sliding off. And the instructions were unclear.
Pitiful work Lego. Pitiful.

I wish they would just phase out the stickers and print all the stuff on the blocks but other than that the set is amazingly detailed and was soooo fun to build.

Couldn’t wait to get this set and build it, great as a display or in my case it’s in my Lego City’s waterfront bay without the display base.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This build was fun from start to finish. I really love all of the intricacies like the newspaper inside the galley, coffee cup on the table, spears along side the cabin. That part was fun for sure. I like that you can highlight the shark by itself or in attack of the boat. There are many options for display purposes. Tough build for me, but fun nonetheless.
