Good Set, but not as good as Optimus Prime

I like the set, I was excited about it and the build was fun, but the transformation is clunky and its a bit rough to display in robot mode. Overall I would still recommend it and my son has had fun stealing it off my shelf to play with but I would call it a step down from the very high quality Optimus, hopefully this was just due to its smaller size. I'm still looking forward to future transformer sets.

Bumblebee is a great addition to the LEGO lineup. A fun build and the transforming mechanics really make this pop. I hope they do Megatron next!

I also purchased the Optimus Prime build and now I can say I have a set of transformers. This was one of my favorite shows as a child and it brings back memories. Wish I could have gotten the Voltron set when it was available.

More than meets the eye in the wrong way

As a long time fan of both Lego and Transformers I was excited for this set. Having already built Optimus Prime I was happy to see that there would be more characters added to the line up. I have been building with Lego for years and already have many Lego sets built and on display in my home. Bumblebee is such a beloved character and would make a great addition to my growing collection. Unfortunately the end results failed to live up to the high bar that Lego has set thru the years. Building Bumblebee wasn't a problem, it was when I tried to transform him that the problems with the design showed up. I had pieces falling off of him as I followed the instructions on how to convert him to robot mode. I decided to check online to see if anybody else was having the same problems. I watched videos and read reviews and saw that others were having some of the same problems I was. I then, with the knowledge gained from my research decided to take Bumblebee apart piece by piece and rebuild him to see if it was user error. After rebuilding him I came to find out that the same problem of pieces falling off during transformation persisted. I am now reluctant to transform Bumblebee which defeats one of the joys of having this set. It seems like Bumblebee was designed with too many pieces, especially small pieces that are not really reinforced by the design. Hopefully the continue this collaboration with other characters like Grimlock, Megatron and Starscream. I really wanted to love Bumblebee but unfortunately this set didn't meet my expectations.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

So this is a good set, the feet are a little big and clunky even for a G1 Bee but overall it looks good. My son and I had a great time putting it together.
