Finally ended up getting this set for May the 4th deals. Goes very nicely with all my other star wars ships. The only thing is watch where you grab to attach wings or some of the smaller parts will definitely come off. But it was nothing too bad. Overall very happy with the final product.
This is my second UCS set, and it won’t be my last. Thoroughly enjoyed the build, and it looks fantastic on my bookshelf. It didn’t take quite as long to build as my 2020 A-Wing did, despite having more pieces, which I’m chalking up to the more symmetrical design of a TIE vs a rebel ship. Fewer random, unique details on one side or the other, and the wing sections are identical, so you almost don’t need the instructions by the time you get to the third section.
Would highly recommend this set for anyone looking to get into the UCS game but lack the funds or apartment space for some of the larger sets.
First 2 days of this were great everything was going fine but then it all started with one peice falling off that led to hundreds of others. I spent 2 hours a day for 5 day straight trying to fix it but it just kept falling off. I got to bag 13 before I had to quit.
This overall was a great set to build. Some of the smaller pieces inside the pilot compartment fell off during the build when the larger pieces were going on. This is one of the more solid builds structurally that Ive experienced.
I purchased this for my 13 year old son as it was #1 on his Christmas list. He worked on it nonstop for 3 days ignoring video games and other devices because he was having so much fun. The final product is beautiful and he is very proud of his accomplishment. Now we just need to figure out how to display it. The only bummer was that the guidebook was missing many pages (over 50 steps) which was odd. We were ultimately able to go online and get the digital version to complete the project but it was a pain point in the building process. Other than that, it was a lot of fun for him and nice to see him focus on something challenging.
