I continue to be impressed with what the designers are coming up with for the UCS Star Wars sets, and this one is no exception. I was really interested to compare this one to the Tie Fighter that came out a few years ago. Lego is a block so it always fascinating to see how they are going to design rounded features for these models. This one has some really fascinating building techniques but the way the bags are divided makes it easy to put together. I really appreciate the printed data plate, I really don't enjoy trying to perfectly line up that sticker on earlier models. One thing I thought was a bit cheesy on this one, was the mouse droid, but if that's the biggest complaint I have, then this must be a really good set! My only other comment, Please Lego, give us an updated Darth Vader UCS Tie Fighter!
9.5/10 love this set, looks amazing and was a fun build. Only a couple minor complaints. The high gloss black on the placard is a distraction and isn't as nice as past sets. Stickers, while I'm very thankful all these stickers are on the interior of the ship these stickers prove to be a huge pain. I also still think all UCS sets should be 100% printed for the price we pay.
It was really great to build. I enjoy of how if you use the building app, this is one you can rotate and slide to get a better view on select steps. As I tried to put the front shield on, it wasn't able to connect securely without pushing other piece(s) off so I have to take a little bit apart to reapply them. Due to that, the front is on enough to stay put, but you have to be careful. Still enjoyed the rest enough to overpower that one troublesome area.
I started collecting about a year after the first UCS Tie Interceptor came out. While I really wanted one I decided to wait as the original was pretty rough around the edges. Almost 20 years later It was so worth the wait. With new pieces this set looks fantastic. I couldn't think of any improvements. If you are a fan of the TIE fighter series I could not recommend high enough. Must buy in fact. Hopefully they will update the original UCS tie fighter, which I do have, as well.
