It works when it's plugged in. If you plan to use continuous recording, go ahead and by a wired camera. So many issues trying to get it to record events.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I recently purchased four (4) Battery Cam Pro cameras for the outside of my house. Set-up is very easy and using the app is very easy and gives you a lot of options to customize the camera for your needs. The only downside is if the camera is placed where there is poor lighting, like under a roof eave, the night vision does not work well. I have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions Wyze has offered, but unless I place the camera where there is sufficient lighting, the night vision does not work well and appears black, even when the spotlight comes on when motion is detected. I have tested the same camera in different locations and it works great when there is proper lighting (like above my garage), but it does not work in my backyard where there is no lighting. Other than that, I am very happy with this camera as well as my Doorbell Pro and Outdoor cameras.
Very nice camera great picture quality. I like the LED lights on the camera they really brighten up the view when it comes on. Great color in this little camera as well. It is very conservative on battery use as well.
