[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This unit is a direct replacement for 13 year old 8000 BTU Frigidaire. The old unit was still working and was trouble free for years. It just couldn't handle the Arizona excessive tripple diget summer temperatures any longer. This new unit works perfectly and easily handles the summer heat. Because the old unit lasted so long, the choice was obvious. Frigidaire can be depended on for our cooling needs.

Easy to use

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this about a month ago for my apartment and I am very pleased with it so far. It's very easy to use and it has sleep option, and eco option, and also auto. I have MS and this really helps out with the heat we're having here in Montana now.
My brother was given the portable one and this one works better than his and was half the price.

Disappointed

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased this air conditioner based on the number of positive reviews. I needed a new AC unit because I had a lot of people visiting and it was very hot and humid. My other AC unit is 5 years old, also an 8,000 BTU. I installed the new FFRE083WA1 in the main living area thinking that the newer unit would probably work better than a 5 yr old unit. We ended up switching out the units because the new unit did not cool and dehumidify the room as well as the older unit. If I had to quantify this, I would say it was one-third to half as cooling/efficient as the older unit. I am not normally a review writer and if I do review, I won't write until I have actually used the product long enough to make an accurate statement and feel strongly enough to write a useful statement. Hope this is useful to future purchasers.

It generally does the job

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this unit in late May (it's currently early August), and it's done the job so far. We only needed a smaller unit for a small room, and it generally works well enough. However, just a few weeks into using it, the AS (automatic sensor, looks like "A2" on the screen) code appeared on the screen and didn't go away after efforts to reset. We had to just use the fan for some days because we didn't know what kind of weird things it would do on the Cool setting with an AS code. We just decided to turn it on again on a hot day, and ever since, the AS code sometimes flashes and goes away. It's been normal most of the time after that. The power and Eco buttons are a little hard to push. I wonder if the buttons are are just a little off center, and maybe that's why? We're adults, and we still have to press pretty hard on those two buttons to work sometimes, but all of the other buttons work well. We have another unit just like this one, but with a higher BTU, and we got it the year before. We were so happy with that one, so that's how we decided to get this particular unit. Our year-old unit might actually be leaking some freon, but that's a separate issue. Something positive is that I really like this unit when it does what it's expected to, and I like that this remote has a screen to tell us the temperature (something our bigger unit doesn't have, so an improvement). I feel like it could just be isolated issues, so I do think I would purchase this brand/type again in the future.
