So much more than expected...

I purchased this set after having seen the winning Lego Ideas submission and tracking the buildup to release... at first I was hesitant about the translation to commercial offering - the color scheme looked more whimsical than the IDEAS submission, which had a darker, grittier feel I liked. Ultimately, the new look grew on me and I took the plunge - and subsequently had the most enjoyable Lego building experience of my adult life.
The variety of environments, colors, creatures and secrets (there are so, so many!), coupled with the well-conceived modular design, made this set so satisfying to build. I indulge in Lego as a meditative escape from the daily grind... this build not only served that purpose, but it was fun and engaging in a wholly unexpected way. I was sharing some of the surprises that are hidden in the set with my kids, and kept stumbling on ones I had forgotten.
Lego really raised the bar with this set... for the price and size, I don't know of anything that rivals it (I've built the Lion Knight's Castle and Rivendell... both of which are fantastic... but I just had a ridiculous amount of fun with this one).

Amazing Set!

Love it! Took me 8 hours and enjoyed every minute. Had one small issue with a piece that was supposed to be left facing, but the bag had 2 right facing. Hardly noticeable. Haven't played the campaign with it yet, but downloaded and read it to prepare. I agree the interior spaces are a wee bit to small for adults to get their hand in to play, but the figures, the monsters, the heroes makes up for it all!

Hands down the largest plus also one of the coolest Lego sets I've EVER built! Build time was about 15 hours over the course of a couple days. I really took my time and enjoyed every second of it. Just building this alone felt like an adventure! You start off building the tavern / inn and make your way out to the meadow / castle wall, then into the dungeon before constructing the multi level tower and finish it off with the red dragon. I loved many of the techniques used throughout this build with how bricks were utilized. I love all the monsters, gear, weapons & treasure. The character minis are all fantastic looking and it makes me want more Lego D&D minifigs! I feel many Lego sets have their little quirks that may or may not annoy people but i truthfully don't have anything negative to say. I'm not at all disappointed here. Very happy!

Great build - dragon is tricky though

We had a blast building this set! I had the opportunity to build it twice since I also bought a family member the set and built it with them.
On both of those sets we really struggled to get the jaw of the dragon to stay on. Every time you pick up the dragon, its lower jaw falls off. Since we use the sets to run some fun D&D one shot quests, the dragon not staying together was a bummer. No complaints about the rest of the set!

I would be giving it 5 stars if only the Dragons jaw would not be so finicky. I'm looking to see what the head and jaw should use and modify the build to better build just the head and jaw area but very satisfying build. I highly recommend it
