The washer has been even better than thought. It runs thru the cycles quietly and the controls are easy to work. The capacity of this washer is more than I could ever need. I love the performance of this washer.

I wish they still made 'em like they used to.

They don't make things the way they used to, and this machine is a perfect example of that. It isn't as sturdy as the old machines used to be, so it shakes and rattles more than it should, even though it's perfectly balanced. I used to start the machine and then add the laundry soap and let it mix with the incoming water before I put my clothes my old machine, but in this machine, I have to put the soap and clothes in before I can start the machine and the soap leaves spots on my clothes because it doesn't thoroughly mix with the water. I have to be extremely careful to balance the tub with my clothes, too, otherwise the washer tries to correct the problem by spinning the tub rapidly, causing the machine to shake even more than usual, which is concerning. If that doesn't work, then I have to start the whole wash cycle over from the beginning, which is really annoying. I didn't have any of these problems with my old machine. I wish I could've bought a new one just like it when it died after a long and healthy life, but they don't make them anymore. I miss the good ol' days when everything worked the way it was supposed to and I didn't have to worry about turning my washing machine on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We'd like to help out with the out of balance conditions and stains showing up on your clothing.
In regards to the staining, we recommend making sure that if you are using fabric softener, to place it in the dispenser instead of directly in the tub. The dispenser is located on top of the agitator and the cap can be twisted off.
You will also want to check that the inlet water temperature is reaching 120°F minimum. This allows the detergent to fully dissolve during the cycle. Also, you can add your detergent to the bottom of the tub before adding your clothing items.

It's also important to ensure that you are loading your clothes around the agitator loosely and evenly. I bought this washer to replace a Maytag I'd had for 20 years. The GE washer runs well. I like how it tries to adjust a load that gets off balance in the spin cycle by itself. My only issue with this washer is that it doesn't hold large loads like my previous washer. I have a big son who wears big jeans, and I only feel comfortable putting 2 of his jeans in the same load along with just a couple of small items to balance it out.
