The small stature is perfect for a busy work desk while still providing enough featured to run CAD, CNC, and graphic programs and mostly all at once.

This was not mentioned in the set up instructions and I wasted a couple of days and half a dozen suupport calls before a colleague told me about it !

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My main computer was quite a beast when I built it in 2008. Despite many upgrades, it was starting to feel slow. A powerful CAD program was sluggish when doing simple rotations and zooms. I was looking at building a new tower unit, but was not looking forward to the design effort. So, I considered pre-built.
Sorting through the many options, the P3 Ultra seemed like a good choice. I got one with a Core i9 processor, 64 gig memory, and NVIDIA RTA A2000 graphics. The CAD program really snaps now. Everything snaps! The unit is quiet and the three cooling fans – for CPU, SSD, and graphics – rarely come on. The tower orientation fits easily on my desk and does not vacuum up dust like my old tower unit on the floor.
Being smaller, there are fewer USB ports, but I’m able to conserve ports using Bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard.
I have a high-speed fiber gigabit internet connection, but somehow my old tower unit never seemed to reach even 600 Mbps in speed tests. The new P3 easily and consistently reaches 1000 Mbps.
I appreciate the downloadable user guide and repair guide, availability of repair parts, and the availability of recovery media.
There was a problem in setting up the speakers, however, that the user documentation could have helped with. There is no audio jack on the back of the P3, and I did not want a permanent speaker connection to the jack on the front of the P3. The only video out is DisplayPort, which happens to include audio. I noticed that my monitor has an audio out jack, so I hooked the speakers to the audio jack on the monitor, and got sound through the DisplayPort connection. However, there was a “pop” at the start and end of each sound clip. Very annoying.
The base P3 video consists of full-sized DisplayPort outlets on the motherboard, but there are additional mini-DisplayPort outlets on the optional graphics card. I initially used the full-sized outlets since that was the video cable that I had. However, I figured out that using the mini-DisplayPort outlets on the optional card might be better. I got a suitable cable and the annoying “pop” disappeared.
The Lenovo community forum on ThinkStations confirmed that the mini-DisplayPort should be used if present. How to hook up speakers should be clearly documented in the literature that comes with the P3. It took me several frustrating hours to solve the speaker problems.
