I have not had a closer shave in years. I attribute it to the "floating head," which guides along the contours of one's face.

In the meantime I had discarded the old head, so I decided to just buy a new shaver - and I'm glad I did. The 3900 is a big improvement over my 10 year old shaver, even when it was new.
