Works on Pampass Grass

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this to shred pampass grass my wife wanted planted around the perimeter of my pole barn. I have 120 feet by a yard thick mess of pampass grass to deal with every year. Wife wants it left up through the winter, so the birds, rabbits an other animals have a place to hide. That being said, it was nice and dry. Previous years, it would be 15 or 16 contractor bags of cut pampass grasses. This year, after using the WORX, I had 6 and 1/2 contractor bags. The machine was impressive. I found that feeding stalks in a bundle about the size of a baseball bat ( 3 inches thick ) worked the best, More than that size, it took more time and put more strain on the machine. Remember, it is a string trimmer, and IT IS Designed to need lines replaced. They are easy to change out. I placed the bags on the lower unit as instructed, and the design worked fine. After several stalks, I would remove the top of the machine, and push the shredded grass down. It is light and airy after shredding, so I just compacted it and was able to get more into each bag. I am a 100 percent happy customer.

Worx Great

I received my Worx Leaf Mulcher Nov. 6th. I live in Portland, Or. It is very hard to have dry leaves here in November. I went ahead and used my mulcher today, and, even with damp leaves it worked great. I also have a Worx edger and blower, I am so happy I watched one of the infomercials on the 3in1 edger, and got started on my Worx garden tools. Keep up the great quality of yard equipment.
I had another brand that was difficult to collect the mulched leaves and clogged all the time. I can put a drawstring plastic bag over the stand and run till it fills up. A great feature. One complaint people have had is changing the string a lot. I went to a heavy duty string and it probably lasts 5 times as long as the original. I mulched 3 full bags of wet leaves yesterday and I think I changed one string.
Pros: This product quickly and easily turned my yard full of non-composting leaves into finely shredded mulch which should break down with ease. It is easy to assemble, light and mobile, and I swapped out leaf bags without trouble. It came with plenty of extra "blades" (plastic string, like a weed wacker). A great product, especially for the price.
Cons: It would be nice to have something wider on the base of each "foot", as the poles acted like high heels, sinking easily into the ground, sometimes on one side more than the other, causing the machine to become lopsided.
Neutral: I had issues with shredded leaves sticking in the barrel instead of falling through the bottom - this is less about the product, as those were the leaves that were wetter. It worked great for dry leaves, so it isn't a con, but if it worked better with wet leaves too it would have been a pro. It also gets a bit jammed up on sticks, and it can't break them up, but I didn't buy it for that purpose. From what I could find, machines either mulched sticks well or mulched leaves well, but none did both well (at least at this price point). If you want to mulch sticks and branches, this is not the machine for that.

Deals with the leaves!

This thing works very well. I have a whole mess of trees, and my upwind neighbors have even more. And now I can haul the leaves to the leaf-dump in two trips instead of five.
A couple of things to watch out for: (1) it's basically a string trimmer (weed wacker) in a tube. The strings wear down fairly quickly, and that slows down its leaf-mulching rate. (2) it took me a while to learn a good rate to feed the leaves. Don't shove in too many at once or it will clog up.
It comes with a bunch of spare plastic strings. Before you discard worn ones, you can adjust them so one end sticks out all the other way and the other end is shorter.

FEED ME!

Because Birmingham is in the midst of an exceptional drought, the very dry mulching creates a mini dust storm! Just stationing oneself upwind, however, reduces exposure to the dust. It's nice to reduce the number of leaf bags, and the mulcher makes bagging easier too. With so many trees and leaves on my property, it's good that the WORX device is so portable. The brand name attracted me to this product, since I own several other WORX tools.

You need this machine in your life

This machine cut down the bagging time from 3 weekend to 2 hours. My yard has an epic amount of leaves. Last couple of years I have bagged no less than 75 yard size bags and it took forever. With this I blew all he leaves into a big pile and just kept feeding the beast. I even got the kids involved and they loved helping. In 3 hours I was done and had only 20 bags. My only concern is that I needed to switch the string a ton, but string is cheap and my time is well worth it. As an added bonus this machine stores up in a very compact way taking very little space in my shed.
