Great functionality but dim screen

While I love the improved functionality over my Edge 530, the screen is noticeably dimmer and harder to read. So I just returned it and upgraded to the new 850. That screen is fantastic (and a keeper)!

Works as advertised, however the software can get buggy depending on what version of the firmware you're on.

Good and Bad……

I’m coming from a 830 to the 840 Solar. Good: side buttons as well as touch screen.
Bad: Solar ‘area’ around the perimeter of screen is dark and makes the entire screen dark. Not sure if the solar aspect is worth it. Otherwise nice update once i got rid of ClimbPro and other invasive features that distract me from riding my bike.

Solar Screen is Darker then Non Solar

Love the unit, big upgrade from my old 830. But the screen is darker than it should be even with adjusting brightness controls.

Fantastic Modern Updates

I recently bought this head unit as an upgrade from my previous Garmin 520, which served me well for many years. It was only until the battery life ran so low, it would barely hold a charge for a 3hr ride that I had to replace it. The new 840 Solar it a definitely a step in several ways: it's a larger screen, so it's easier to see the display, the display is color, which is a nice upgrade. The touchscreen feature is the biggest improvement to me, no more external button sequences to remember to accept or back out of for functions. And of course a much more improved battery life with solar charge allows me to ride all week on a single charge before having to plug it in again. This is one of many Garmin products I own, their quality and support is unmatched! Thank you!
