Not quite as good as I hoped

Many features are good, but this device forgets sensors between rides, so I have to reconnect every time. PLUS it refuses to connect to my cadence sensors. That is very frustrating.

I bought this about a month ago. This is my first bike computer/navigator and I was very excited to get the new 840. It seems like it will turn out to be fantastic, but, as frequently noted in chat rooms and professional reviews, it is difficult to get used to. Another problem, which I don't think is the fault of the Garmin is a problem with pairing a Stages Power meter.

Sometimes you have to use the touchscreen, sometimes you have to use the buttons, most(!) of the times you can choose. The computer itself is as good as it gets, but the use of it is too often confusing. Going back to 530 for a while longer, then probably up to 1040 some time. Problem for me is, I really want both buttons and touchscreen, but it must be done better than on the 840 is at this point in time.

The new Climb Pro free ride feature is stand out for me. Battery life is very good and of course the GPS signal is awesome. The only feature I personally I like to see is route speaking while navigating on unknown routes.

The best Garmin Edge

I bought this 840 to replace my 530. I loved my 530, but my battery would die on my 100 mile Century rides. This started after I had paired it with the Garmin Rally XC200 pedals. I knew the 840 had a better battery and I was tempted to get the solar model. I’m happy to report that it was fine after my Century ride and had 35% battery in reserve.

I bought this three weeks ago, took me 2 weeks and about 10 resets to get it somewhat working... first I had data and settings moved from my old Edge130, but eventually gave up and set it as new Edge :(

So far really good.

Coming from a 530, and really like the new interface and touch screen, but with buttons. I really like having both as I ride quite a bit in the winter with gloves and a touch screen in 20 deg F weather with thick gloves just isn't ideal. Also like the 840 auto correct route option to get me back on the course
