Enjoying it

Great to have! Easy to use! Used it on indoor trainer during winter months. Was missing the HR sensor for more efficient stats. Currently only using speed and cadence sensor. I feel like I need more gadgets when using it indoors Looking forward to spring and taking it out on the gravel roads! A great gadget to have when you arrive an active cyclist but not essential to the beginner...unless you love gadgets üòÅ

Upgraded from the 530

This upgrade was really worth it. The battery holds up well, and the UI of the touch screen was far more intuitive than the buttons on the side. Only have a few rides with it, but I'm sure it's going to be around for a long time. Paired it with the speed and cadence sensors and my Garmin Fenix for the heart rate monitor. Gives me all the data feedback that I need and the ability to install Trailforks to utilize the gps for trail systems I'm not familiar with is great.

Garmin head units just keep getting more features and are easier to use.

I haven't had the 840 for too long, but I am coming from multiple edge models and a Fenix6. I like the new interface with touch screen and setup was way easier as it pulled all of my information from Garmin Connect and my Edge 1030.

Excellent head unit

I have owned the unit for about a month now and absolutely love it. Great for new rides/routes especially with the mapping and climbpro functions. A little pricey, and the touchscreen may not be necessary, but I got the upgraded version for the NA and EU maps preloaded since I will be travelling to the EU more often.

Training and recreation done right

The Garmin, 840 is a highly adjustable unit and can be personalized with ease. I have two different profiles, one for recreation, and one for actual training. Amongst other units, this model has worked flawlessly. You can set it up to have less fields and more prompts for beginner or really add in more metrics for any expert or pro. I've invested into the full Garmin ecosystem, but you can use third-party if you would like.

Literally trust my life to this device

I use my garmin for training six days a week and navigating through remote trails and have been incredibly satisfied with its navigation features. I trusted it to lead me through the bootleg burn area in a remote part of the Cascades where no trail or blazes were left after the fire, and ended up navigating for both me and friend whose gps device was less reliable. Not an exaggeration to say I have trusted this device with my life! The 840 version fixes some minor qualms I had with the 830, which I used for tens of thousands of miles. I find the 840 connects to my other garmin devices more reliably and uploads rides to my phone consistently as soon as I stop a ride, something I had problems with on the 830. I use it as the hub for all my rides and love how seamlessly it works with my rally power meter and garmin in reach. The 840 has a better resolution, and now I can see photos people text me while I ride! only downside is that encouraged garmin to cram a lot of info on the screen, making the user interface a little challenging with gloves/ in the rain/ etc but I think I will get used to it.

More of an upgrade than I realized

one the the things i noticed most of all was the font size. The unit seems wider and the font changed which actually made it easier to read while riding. I also liked how the the updates match my wearables layout for summary and info pages. Easy to navigate, set up and use. Good for a novice or seasoned rider. Pick yourself up a silicone case to protect the unit and start collecting data
