It does everything I needed, wanted plus more. The one issue, learning curve aside, is using touch screen and/or buttons simultaneously by accident, changing your initial request.

Unit crashes often. Stop-starts mid-ride.

Unit has crashed several times in less than a month. Unit has stopped and started while moving above the 6mph that triggers it. Very disappointing.

Great bike computer - pretty intuitive. Have been using to track MTB rides/stats. Did a 6hr MTB event - in the end, the battery was down to 82%. Based on my experience with cell phone apps used to track rides, they aren't nearly as accurate and they lose signal regularly in the mountains (searching for towers, drains battery faster). The included MTB handlebar mount is basic and not great for more lively terrain. Recommend getting a more robust mount. Overall, the GPS has been great and has more features than I really need.

A great upgrade from my Edge 530

In addition to the additional features on the 840, I really like the combination of touchscreen and navigation buttons. While I'm still learning my new device, the touchscreen and the buttons make it very easy to get around. I vast improvement over my earlier Edge devices, which were all button only.

Great Cycling GPS

We ride 350-400 miles of MTB a month, tracking using watches or other devices, while useful and insightful wasn't really all that user friendly. Enter the Garmin Edge--it puts all that data right up on your "dashboard" (handlebars) where it's super easy to view and make decisions on in real time. The amount of information that is available was at first rather intimidating, as was the layout and operation of the device, but after a quick YouTube vid or two it all made sense and I was able to customize my home screen and other features and had it fully dialed in to my needs. Incredible device especially in the bundle form--heart rate and cadence monitoring added that "whole other level" of insight into our rides and it's become so much a part of our cycling that it would be strange to ride without it. Amazing GPS tracking, see full maps of rides including speed, elevation, breath rates, heart rate, sweat loss, calories, and a bunch more--So much valuable data! Other impressive features like the Group Ride also add another level of value in being able to 'see' and communicate with other riders in your party without phones or even cell signals. Product is so good I don't want to ride without it and if something happened to it, I'd replace it again as quickly as possible.
