Transitioned from a Wahoo Bolt V2 when unit malfunctioned. I have been pleasantly surprised with the 840. Everything you need and some, touchscreen provides alternatives to accessing information. Great unit.
I bought this and have been using it for a month or so; it is by far the best tracking device for mountain biking on the market, I highly recommend and it’s definitely worth it
I have waited to review this until I had used it a while. I am very pleased. 1. As expected, the response to inputs is faster 2. I expected to customize the display, but I haven't needed to. It works well out of the box. Information I want to see is there. 3. The colorful display is easy to read even in sunlight and is not cluttered. 4. Works better tnan the old 1000 with the Varia rear radar to warn of traffic
I traded up from my 530 and very pleased with having done so. The 530 remains a very solid computer, but the additional features on the 840 make it well worth the upgrade. For example, the computer sits between rather narrow aerobars on my tri-bike, which has alway made getting to the side buttons on the computer a challenge. The touch screen on the 840 solves that issue brilliantly and... it works in wet weather which -from what I have read in other reviews- has not really been the case with earlier models with the touch screen feature. The larger screen and improved resolution are also terrific upgrades and make it very easy to the computer on sunny days . The software improvements are almost too numerous to mention, but a special call out to the new Free-Ride ClimbPro. I rarely ride on a preloaded course and I live in very hilly area, so I rarely was able to use this feature on my 530. The Free-Ride feature permits the ClimbPro to function whether you are on a course or on a free ride. It's a very welcome addition. I've been using the computer both indoors and outdoor for several weeks and it has performed flawlessly. Nicely done Garmin!!
Garmin has made a great advance over the Edge 530. The touchscreen plus still able to use the buttons is fantastic. With the touchscreen they have solved many of the user interface challenges of previous Edge products in configurability and usability. So many new features and capabilities. Excellent battery life in normal use configurations. I highly recommend this product over what I see in the competitors offerings. Way to go Garmin !
Have previously owned the 1030 plus. My husband wanted a bike computer to use on our annual North Carolina Mountains to the Coast Bike tour. I kept the 840 and gave him the 1030. Enjoying the improved Climb Pro features at a lesser price.
This is the best Garmin Edge I've owned. It loads and pairs quickly. The ClimbPro update is awesome. The USB- C port makes it easier to charge. The new interface makes the data more accessible. It is a much improved training tool. Beginners will enjoy the ease of operation. Experts will benefit from the many training options and connectivity with third party programs. It has become an essential tool for becoming a better cyclist.
