Everything You Want

The Garmin Edge 840 works perfectly with my bike, my power pedals, and my headlamp.
It's easy enough to understand and operate, about as customizable as you want, and the screen is easy to read.
The battery life is great.
The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is that I might want a slightly bigger screen. But this thing is awesome!

This computer does it all: reliable, easy to use, live track feature, trail suggestions, route calculations, hill climb metrics, etc. The only downfall is that I wish I had purchased this sooner!

Excellent device for biking - gravel, road, and wherever possible

This is an excellent device which download or use pre-loaded routes for biking on various routes whether it be gravel, road, or new territory you are exploring. The battery life is great and long with good post activity statistics available on your garmin connect app and other places that are connected. The size is good and screen visibility is good.

The Garmin 840 works okay. It does feel like we are beta testers for Garmin though. I seem to have frequent issues with sensors not connecting and I have to manually "connect" them before starting an activity. My main gripe with it is the fact that periodically, during races, it has been known to just reboot itself. When it boots back up after a min or so, it does recall the activity I was recording, but it defaults to paused, so if I don't notice and hit start right away, I can go a long way during a RACE in which I am not recording any data or getting accurate time/power/HR or any other data... I have looked for solutions and it sounds like I need to factory wipe the device and try again, which will make me have to spend a bunch of time setting everything back up again. When it does work though, it does work well and the battery life is great!! After a 4-5hr race, it still will have ~75% battery left.

Main screen shows a lot of details large enough to see at a glance. Map and routes via Connect will be very helpful. Great to know hill grade and ascent remaining. Major downside is that you cannot use watch as a heart monitor. You can extend the watch features to the Edge, but it will not integrate heart rate into the computer home page or report to Connect. Need a chest strap for that.

One of the best Cycling Computers for the money

The 840 specifically is my favorite of the bunch for Garmin. Snappier than the 1040 and more screen real estate than the 540.
If you're going to get one. Get this one.

First bike computer

Easy initial sync with Garmin Connect and my existing Garmin gear (HRM, Cadence). This let me get a basic set up and get riding without much friction. First ride with a bike computer and with no custom configuration, and I had all the data that I needed (and more) available right in front of me.
As a first time bike computer user, I am just scratching the surface of what this product can do and I'm already happy with my purchase.
The only improvement I'd like to see is more configuration capabilities within Garmin Connect, ex. Customize profiles and screens in Garmin Connect. If this capability exists, it wasn't prominent enough in the initial onboarding.
