After losing my Garmin 1040 while travelling I wanted a replacement and decided to go a size down. It fits better on the MTB and gives me most of the screen size of the larger device in what feels like the 'right sized' package. Great functionality, excellent battery life. Just works!

Not Sure On This

I purchased this after I broke the wings off of my beloved 830 in a crash. I was so pumped to order this 840 thinking I just justified an upgrade via crash. This thing feels cheaper, the screen is not nearly as clear or sharp as the 830 and it’s nowhere near as intuitive as the 830. It seems like Garmin made the screen a little bigger from the 830 but downgraded all the features and software and packaged this as an upgrade. Not completely pumped but I’m stuck with it.

I haven't used it yet as I haven't figured out how to setup and operate. Regret my purchase! Too many bells and whistles.
