Great cycling computer

I've had the Garmin Edge 840 computer for a little over a month and love it. the screens are easy to set up and with the touch screen easy to scroll if needed.

This has been useful for the initial purpose I wanted it for - to track my speed, vertical and time. It's also been helpful with saving some routes I have ridden.
It did take me a bit to figure out how to start recording a trip and I feel like there's a lot of features that I haven't taken advantage of yet. So in my opinion, it's not the most intuitive but that may be a me problem. Looking forward to doing some more reading up on it so I can take advantage of the other features.

Amazing Battery life in a small package

Purchased this 840 for an 8 day endurance race this past summer and it performed well. I got just over 24 hours on each charge and the rate at which the battery filled up was awesome. The form factor is great and the touch screen is a must have (the button layout can be confusing at times). 32g of storage gives you enough room to have base maps for about 1 continent plus your loaded routes and you can choose which global regions you'd like for free on Garmin express.

Needs better interoperability with Apple ecosystem

There are a number of features that are unavailable without an accompanying Garmin watch. I have health data from my Apple watch (e.g. VO2 Max and resting heart rate), but I cannot manually enter it in the Garmin ecosystem -- frustrating. Also, every time I eject my Edge 840 from my MacBook Air, I have to force a hard reset to regain operation. It hangs during restart.

Needs some bug fixes

Overall, I really enjoy having this Garmin. When it works correctly it is great. I love seeing how much I have left in a climb and courses work well. The problems I have seem to be common, often it will freeze when syncing and more annoyingly my workout won't show up on the Edge. Today I had to go into the calendar and select a day that happened to have the same workout because no matter how I tried, I couldn't get it to show up for today even though it showed on my app and desktop.
Another great thing is it will reroute a course on the fly, helpful when a road is closed or impassable. Though I did have it say the device was full on my last long ride and couldn't reroute after that.

I purchased this about Oct 21, 2023 I was going to get the 540 but my wife talked me in to getting the 840 an I'm glad she did had had but about 5 rides with it so I'm still learning how to use it but so for its great
