my first cycle computer and have nothing to compare it too but the 840 does everything i need it to do.
Thought the size was bit small when i got it but more than plenty and easily readable when riding. Sensors connect easily and provide all data necessary. Good to watch some YT videos how to settup and how to operate
I purchased the new 840 as an upgrade from my 500 as I decided not to Mount my iPhone. I’m running BOTH Zone training with HR & Power. Really like having touch screen & buttons and advanced training features on the unit verses on the Connect website using the 500.
This was a gift from my husband, to be honest, one I didn't need, but I have to admit that I love it. The information I glean is interesting. I will never be a professional cyclist but I love the stats and the maps.
I bought this recently to replace my 530 edge that died after 3 years. Love the 840! Didn’t think I would want the touch screen but am glad I got it. Easy to set up especially if you were using the app. Way more features than I use/need but a great computer.
I moved from my trusty 830 to an 840 about a month ago (a) for its side buttons, handy for winter use when thick gloves make using the touchscreen difficult and (b) for its larger memory to accommodate maps for other countries. I discovered that the data screens are improved: larger digits, and fields labeled in caps making it easier to read. The timer now has a tiny digit to the left for hours, so that seconds are shown after an hour has passed. Unfortunately some of the other screens are now cluttered and chaotic, and banners sometimes cover a choice you'd like to make. Overall, Garmin's OS is intrusive, trying to force you to use special features that are of no interest. A pity there is not an option to make it just operate as a basic GPS computer without all the bells and whistles that interfere with simple use.
one the the things i noticed most of all was the font size. The unit seems wider and the font changed which actually made it easier to read while riding. I also liked how the the updates match my wearables layout for summary and info pages. Easy to navigate, set up and use. Good for a novice or seasoned rider. Pick yourself up a silicone case to protect the unit and start collecting data
