Edge 840
on February 20, 2024

I used to have the red Edge 500, and later on the 530, upgrading to the 840 is a nice step up. I can see how the touchscreen is helpful with the new interface, better integration with the app. Unfortunately, the screen size still is pretty much the same, with a huge bezel around it, which could have better use (solar). Also, a lot of the new features require other devices like power meters, which is not very clear in the descriptions.
Also, Garmin needs to make it easier to switch between bikes, the Edge should be able to recognize based on type of ride or at least based on sensors (cadence/speed) - we shouldn't have to manually change this info every single time after every activity.

Great bike computer. I really like it. The only reason it’s not a 5 star is because the set up of the different faces and features isn’t super user friendly. You have to be willing to mess around and push buttons for about 30 min to an hour to get it, UNLESS you are use to Garmin features.

Maps for Europe and the US
on March 3, 2024

I needed maps for riding in the US and Europe (Italy specifically), and the 840 has worked flawlessly -- I haven't been lost yet. The unit is quick and responsive, it gives me the feedback/data I need, and it integrates with my other Garmin produce (power pedals, HRM, etc).

The device is great. I love everything that it can do which is also a drawback. It isn’t exactly user friendly or intuitive. So far the ClimbPro has worked well for me and I haven’t had the same issues others have reported. Overall, I’m happy with the device.

Loving it

I started using it about a month ago. I find myself pushing myself further and faster. Had to get the sensors for my bikes. Loved the tracking so much that I got a garmin Fenix watch.

I’m in a cycle club, and our routes are available through Ride with GPS. So that’s why I bought this thing , for navigating. Also when I do an organized bike ride like the assault on the Carolina’s or the Blue ridge brutal. I can easily download the course map to my device. I love it. A lot of the members use Garmin products also. And they didn’t know some of the features that I found that this thing does. It’s like having a personal trainer. I put in an event I’m doing and it gives you a training plan up to that event. Pretty cool I think. My bike has a power meter built into the crank so I’m able to incorporate that into the mix of sensors like heart rate and speed. I don’t bother with the cadence sensor. I’ve just never used cadence. But I’m really enjoying this thing. I have three bikes set up with mounts. So I can just switch bikes with just a twist of the hand. 2 road bikes and a mountain bike. Save your money and buy one , I think you will enjoy it. Oh me personally, I love the touch screen. Everyone is use to touch screens now with phones. It makes it quick and easy for me.

Best Overall Bike Computer
on March 12, 2024

I've owned many of the other brands of Bike Computers over the years. Garmin is overall the best in terms of build quality and features. The one thing I would like is having the app be able to configure the profiles, screens and data fields.

The best product I have invested in. I am still learning all the bells & whistles on how to use all the features.
