Its my first large set that i built since i was a child so it was a bit complicated at first. Overall the mechanisms and the functions are all amazing and this set is seriously a 10/10.

Dune! Wow! I ordered this set as soon as I saw it, because I really love Frank Herbert's books. This set is a real gift. Great and fun build. Everything was simple and clear. Once assembled, the ornithopter looks great! His huge wings are simply a miracle! Thank you Lego for this set!

Good Set, poor technic color choices

Good set and build experience, wish they had used black technic pins and grey ones instead of the red ones because they make the set look funny if you don't replace them.

Great set for play and display

I built the ornithopter last week and was suprised at how complex the building experience was. I had watched a few reviews on the product beforehand, and while I knew that it was mostly Technic based, the intricacies of the inside of the model were surprising. Opening the wings once the ship was built is one of the craziest experiences I’ve had building LEGO, the sheer size of the ship was jaw dropping. Colors on the connectors to the blades are an issue, but there’s a guy on youtube who put out a list of the parts you need to replace most of the visible ones for less that four dollars, which is definitely worth it in my opinion. Overall a very well designed set.

An Amazing Set

Overall Thoughts:
The set was an absolute pleasure to build, looks phenomenal, and is a proper size. All the internal mechanisms to deploy/retract the landing gear and fold/unfold/flap the wings were a joy to build and function perfectly. The tail section is also very rigid and can easily support all the weight even holding it as a cantilever.
Minor Complaints:
The biggest is that the wings are made from soft plastic and are all bowed in the same direction. I've tried gently bending them backwards, but they always settle back to their curved shape. Quite unfortunate since the set looks simply fantastic when all the wings are flat. The second complaint is that when your using the mechanism to flap the wings, the gear spine part bumps into the piece behind it and always knocks it off. That, however, is a nonissue as I was able to correct it myself.
Afterthoughts:
If I had two things to add to the set it would be to have a small compartment (or similar) for the minifigs tools or weapons. Lastly some spring blasters would be great since these ships do have armaments! Other than that, it truly is an absolutely fantastic set for play or display!

My favorite set by far!!

This is hands down the best Lego set I’ve bought so far- mechanically, structurally, and functionally!! The minifigs are amazing as well! Super accurate features, an amazing build process, no stickers or middles or stud launchers! It’s mini figure scale and the size is honestly stunning! 10/10!!

Was waiting to buy this set from the moment it was announced, and it absolutely delivered. It looks very much like the ornithopters in the actual movies and I love the functionality of it. My son and I built it together over 2 days and we agreed that it’s our favorite set we’ve done. Really hoping Lego makes more Dune sets - this went on back-order online the day it was released… what more proof do you need than that to make more Dune sets? Come on Lego, give the people what they want!

Well done Lego

I was excited for this set since it's unveiling. Even more so after watching the YouTube video with the designer. As a longtime fan of the Dune universe, it was refreshing to see that Lego was able to get the licensing for this collaboration. I cant think of model from that franchise which is better suited for a Lego build than the Ornithopter, and my initial impression from those early images and videos was that this was going to be a great set. Ordered it just after midnight on release day and spent a bit checking out the building instructions (just enough to boost the excitement, not so much as to spoil anything). After having completed the set there is a ton I can go on about as far as how good this set is but I will keep it simple. The entire build process is engaging, step by step. There are some advanced techniques, and the set is ~75% Technic and ~25% brick built. So if you don't have a lot of experience with Technic parts and subassemblies it may prove to be a challenging build. I didn't have any issues, but the total time to completion for me was about 2X longer than average for a set this size. This isn't a bad thing, it just means I had twice as long to enjoy the process. Also, The price point is fantastic. It goes without saying that this hobby is not cheap and the prices only increase as the years go by. It's frustrating, but I understand it. I'm usually ok with it as long as quality and value can be quantified fairly in that cost. I feel that I got more than my moneys worth with this set and those instances are becoming increasingly rare. So yes, I definitely recommend this set. Based on the fact that it's already on back order, I probably don't need to.
