Wonderful Build...But those Minifigs
on September 9, 2024
Posted by: Classic.Lego.Fan
Some pros of Eldorado Fortress: 1) Great overall build with a grand architectural style; 2) Excellent details such the wine casket, jail with escape hatch, and captain's quarters; 3) Plenty of weapons/items: muskets, coins, a letter, torches, keys, a monkey...a broom! 4) Has three canons while the original had two; 5) Modular set that can be re-arranged. Cons of Eldorado Fortress: 1) For some reason three of the Bluecoats minifigs are female. I understand Lego has a commitment to diversity. But the decision to include female minifigures gives the set an ahistorical appearance and breaks continuity. Everything else about this set is historically accurate: muskets, epaulets, goblets, cannons...except female Bluecoats. This set is supposed to represent a European fort in the 18th Century Caribbean. Would be nice to see future sets have females portrayed in historically accurate dresses or perhaps include both male and female heads to customize. To wrap up, a charming, customizable fortress brimming with details and hidden nooks. However the female bluecoat minifigures breaks the historical immersion and continuity of the set. Thank you and happy building.

We’re sorry to hear your building experience with the Eldorado Fortress was disappointing. We want our builders to feel inspired and have lots of fun building their new sets. There are limitless possibilities to how we experience gender — female Minifgures allow for a wider audience to be able to enjoy the set and see themselves represented through the power of play.

Meh Build, Great Display
on August 3, 2023

The overall build didn't really do it for me. I found the rock building a bit of a slog and kind of repetitive and there was a lot of repetition for things like the crenulations on the fort. The display and playability of the set is top notch and it looks really good with the ideas pirate ship.

Surprise Christmas Gift
on December 5, 2023

My son loves the castle and viking sets. He had a bunch of sets on his Christmas list this year and did not include this set because of the higher price tag. I cannot wait until he opens it on Christmas morning to go with the sets he already has his fingers crossed.

It’s a Ok set

So overall the build was fun, but the final product is lackluster to say the least. I can see a vintage fan of Lego liking it but as a modern fan nothing has really changed from the original build. Don’t get me wrong the builders worked hard to design it but nothing changed really from the original 80’s set and it looks like a copy paste set

Another set with too many wamen
on October 5, 2023

Come on guys, stop with the wamen in sets that historically don't have them. Sailors were not wamen, naval leadership was not wamen. Stop with the lies.

Thanks for sharing your feedback about the Eldorado Fortress and the minifigures we've included. Representation in toys is incredibly important and play has a big impact on children. Sets such as this one are designed for play and aren't meant to be historically correct. Our goal is to inspire kids through playful learning—this is a responsibility we take very seriously. We’ll continue developing and inspiring the builders of tomorrow by making our toys more inclusive so that everyone playing can see themselves in their LEGO® adventures.

Way too many pieces, looks messy and cluttered
on January 27, 2024

This set cannot compare to Lego's recent Icons/18+ creations like Lion Knight's Castle and Rivendell, and certainly is no comparison to Barracuda Bay, which the designers reference several times through the instructions.
This was my most unpleasant build experience in a long time. The only positive I can say is that there are not any stickers. Now for the many cases of why this is such a terrible set: 1. There several cases of incomplete or forgotten elements; where a piece is laid down and then complete buried in the foundation (these don't connect to anything, they're just forgotten) 2. There are several dozen cases of "piece inflation" (the deplorable practice where multiple pieces are used to complete the function of fewer); this accounts for several hundred pieces that undoubtedly inflated the cost of this set. The 2 most common and annoying cases are: a. A maroon 1x2 round-plate is sandwiched by a pair of white 1x2 plates; this forms the aesthetic of crumbling mortar/stucco over bricks. A single masonry-profiled brick would have been simpler, cheaper, and looked better. b. The foundation of dark gray build from almost 100 of 2x2 concave corner slopes; the concept was to create an organic appearance to the seawall, but instead ends up taking overly long to build, inflating the cost, and appearing messy and disorganized. Other recent creations (Lion Knight's Castle and Rivendell) used comparably far fewer pieces to build their foundations and look so much better than this. c. The tiles used on the sloped road leading into the fortress; giving the appearance of cobblestone. This is the only case this looks decent in any way. d. The level of detail is reminiscent of the massive MOCs built by fans that are epically massive. But on this shrunken model they make it messy and cluttered and it looks like a low-resolution, poorly rendered image. 3. Instructions are dividing between 4 booklets that don't match in size; for a set marketed 18+ with an inflated price tag, quality control/assurance should have caught this before production and given us a higher quality of instruction book(s) that matched in size with fewer individual books. End state: this set felt like it was rushed to production with lackluster quality control/assurance, ended up appearing messy with way too complicated builds, and is an upsetting experience to build. I don't yet know if I want to keep this set separated for display and build/rebuild or to discard and disperse into my bulk lego bins.

Good but not great.

I have been waiting for a set like this to get the mini figures but the white on the soldiers shirts is bluish. I also like that it is modular but I don’t like the walk way that sticks out on the main part when you have it all together.
