Passing the torch

I purchased this set the day it became available. I grew up playing with the older pirate sets and I wanted my son to jump in on the fun that I remember experiencing at his age. This set did not disappoint! We worked on it together and had such a great time. So cool that you could do multiple builds at once. I know some people have complained about some redundancies primarily regarding the lifted stone foundation but I was all for it! Loved how the designer went away from the original molded base and used bricks instead. I’m all for details like this and the brick builds and patterns to make the rocks look killer! We have already put in multiple hours of play and I am confident we have even more ahead. The designer really did a great job and I’m in for the next pirate theme set. Maybe a trading post??? 😜

Wonderfully Nostalgic

Great build experience with my son. I appreciated the nostalgic authenticity with 0 stickers! Hallelujah! And my son loved the crane, secret compartments, letter box and particularly the trap door and jail escape hatch! Great authentic original features to keep AFOLs happy (including cannons that actually shoot unlike the ones us US people may have been forced to use as kids with the original pirate sets) and tons of playability to keep the offspring we live vicariously through happy. Fun for the whole family! Please keep sets like this coming, and keep up the no stickers trend, what a breath of fresh air!

Great Set from a Great Theme!

Really impressed with the redesign of this classic epic set from the original pirates theme. I like some of the updates, like a mini ship for the Imperial Guard, and the brick built baseplate which allows for this to be opened up and better explored than the original.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worth every penny!

I debated buying this on release day and ended up waiting a bit, after getting it in the mail, took me about 5-6 Hours to build it (I decided to take my sweet time) and as someone who never owned the original, I was blown away at how detailed and fun this set really is! After building it I loved it so much I went and got set 21322 (Barracuda Bay) and I couldnt be happier!

Quality Fort!

Love the interchangeable design and detailed fortress. My son loves the trap doors and secret spaces below. The 18+ rating is definitely too much. The build is very doable.
Only negative I would add is that the constructed base inflates the piece count. The boat and fort itself is not very many pieces the vast majority of pieces make up the base.

Was skeptical at first; pleasantly surprised

As the title says, I was skeptical at first but after snagging Barracuda Bay a short time ago I decided to pull the trigger. The fortress has been an even better build experience for me, and I appreciate the care that went into making it a modern take on a timeless classic. It strives to precisely emulate the original which some have critiqued, but I’m glad LEGO is taking risks and experimenting with the revamped classic theme. Very excited for what’s to come, and I can’t wait to see what comes from this line as we get closer to the inevitable 100 Years of Play in 2032.

Great Building Experience

Overall I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. I just wish a couple of the building techniques were different and there were more space to put a mini figure in some portions of the fortress.
