This set is great, lots of cool hidden features, BUT it could have easily been designed with 200-300 less pieces and been just as great. Lego needs to get a hold of its designers to make great sets like this more affordable.
The modular system is cool but the connections are not the same for each section which limits options for rearranging the set and limits the display options. The connections should be standard for each section.

Nostalgia for Dad and Fun for Son

LEGO Eldorado Fortress is a perfect father/son toy. I enjoyed some childhood nostalgia, a great building experience with my son, and he loves the great play features. The set looks wonderful and I appreciate the retro yellow and white color scheme. The instruction manual was thoughtfully divided into multiple books for different age groups which allowed my son and I to spread the build over several nights. He was able to enjoy several smaller bits that were appropriate for his attention span while I got to build the larger portions. Marketing this kit as 18+ is a miss on the part of LEGO, as my young son has been happily playing with this set nonstop for the entire week. The combination of a row boat, a small cargo ship, a working crane, firing cannons, lost treasure, a little jail, and pirate minifigs has resulted in many hours of fun. The best feature of all is the ability to disassemble and reassemble the fortress in multiple configurations, which has fascinated my son. The potential for creative stories and adventures is nearly endless. Excellent set, highly recommended, especially for parent/child duos. Well done, Lego.

Long Live Pirate Theme!!

I grew up on Lego pirate sets so this was a must have, but now I'm excited introducing this amazing pirate theme to my son (5yrs). I enjoyed building the "base" or rocks way more that I thought! I do agree with others mentioning it could have used few more details like the amazing Barracuda Bay set. Still delivers the secrets and charm expected. 5 stars

Satisfying Build Journey with a Great Destination

This was such a satisfying build journey from start to finish. I never owned the original set, but am squarely in the age demo for the nostaglia of this set.
Early on, the heavy reliance on similar and small dark grey bricks can feel a bit monotonous, but it is filled with enough details to keep it interesting until arriving at the fort itself. The amount of detail in the basement/rock level is really quite impressive. Satisfying build process overall.
Also, for an 18+ "display" set, the amount of "play interactions" in this set is really incredible. And, I mean, its okay to play with our "display" legos sometimes.
The modular function is awesome, too, allowing for multiple displays. When set up in the single walled fort front, the length is impressive and makes the set feel much bigger.
And the inclusion of the ship really puts it over the top. Just the fort would be great, but a ship to go with it makes this well worth it.
I would recommend this to a friend!
