Happy with this lock

After living with this lock for two weeks, I am happy with it's performance. I did not install the wifi module since I really didn't need it. I just wanted to go keyless and skip the complications of the wifi setup. I wish there were different lever options - I'd prefer a straight lever vs the curved one the unit comes with. Hopefully, Yale reads these reviews and will consider offering lever options in the future. My only (small) complaint with the lock's operation is that if you brush the touchpad face with your sleeve etc, while the lock is open it will lock itself. Kind of annoying when you have the door open and you are moving stuff in and out and you brush the touchpad. Not a big deal and not something that should keep anyone from buying this lock. I would buy another if I needed it.

We own 3 yale locks. We installed it in a closet. It does the job. No biometric, wish it has fingerprint biometric at its Yale logo would make a perfect lock. The handle is a little thin and less premium feel to it. However, Yale made very reliable locks. Dont have to worry about battery run out, you can always use 9 volt battery to power up the lock to gain access if the battery died. Battery lasted about a year or so. Instead of 9 volt battery backup, wish it has microUSB or USB-C backup instead, which more readily available.

Best option on the market

I have now purchased 10 of these for use inside my home, and 2 of the deadbolt versions for my front and back door. Mine are all set up with the IM1/ Apple HomeKit module so I can control everything on my phone or with Siri. There are quite a few small things that I could complain about or that could be better, but when you compare these to everything else there is on the market, price and functionality wise these cannot really be beat. In my opinion they look great, function efficiently and the batteries last a very long time, only needing to be changed about once a year even with heavy use. Complaints: (1) You cannot use lithium batteries which should make the battery life even better and more convenient. These devices are specifically made for alkaline batteries, and if you try to use lithium batteries they will drain extremely fast, over just a few days. (2) the Yale iOS app Gives me an error about the privacy button not responding on these lever locks every time you open the app to change the settings (I am not sure if this happens in the android app as well because I haven’t tried it ) The reason is because there is no privacy button on the lever locks like some of their other locks that I have (the deadbolt versions). They need to update the app to account for this. (3) when updating the firmware there can be kind of a lag time where the lock is still updating but The app keeps telling you there’s a firmware update over and over again (just ignore it and close out the app for 5 min after the firmware seems complete), and if you try to change the locks settings right after you do an update you can cause problems freeze up the whole thing and have to factory reset it. This is again a issue with the app not the lock itself. The app should walk you through the installation better. (4) I wish you could set it so that the lock will automatically re-lock immediately, and I wish you could set it to automatically re-lock after a longer period like 10-30 minutes, but the only options are between 10 sec to 3 min. (5) I have tried setting up the newer August Wi-Fi module but it seems to be complete garbage. The set up has multiple confusing stages and I got tons of errors and the Bluetooth range for the august connect bridge was horrible. (6) Yale does not sell regular door knobs with this lever/handle style. Since most of my doors in my home have this installed, I was really hoping to replace all the regular knobs on the doors that I did not install these on with similar looking handles that match but they do not offer anything like that, which I thought was pretty odd. *update* They do sell a liver called the Yale Academy lever that looks the same, but it does not come in oil-rubbed bronze because the people at Yale are apparently imbeciles.

A touchpad Lock you can install your self!

A touchpad Locke you can install your self! This touchpad locking up used on the door with the deadbolt. Well it can be used, but if you have the deadbolt it's kind of useless. It's great for side entryways, garage doors and other doors that typically don't have a deadbolt. It is beautifully packaged in all the components are neatly packed separately and labeled boxes. Batteries are included. The unit itself and the hardware are well constructed and solid. The best part is about the installation. It's much easier than you would ever imagined it to be. And on top of that, they have an app to give you step-by-step instructions on how to install it! It's pricey, but I think with the quality of components and the ease of installation it's worth it.
