Cute, but Glitchy

I am an avid crafter who used to hand-cut items and I wanted to add vinyl cutting to my repetoire. My sister is a teacher who has a more robust Cricut, but I thought getting one like hers for my first machine was a bit extreme and intimidating, so I settled on the Cricut Joy Xtra, which was coming out the week I decided to get a machine (felt like a good sign!). Anyway, I was SOOOO excited to get started. Set up was easy, but immediately came across issues with the usability of the Design Space as soon as I came up with a project (I'm used to Photoshop, Illustrator and Design Space is almost too simple and yet, way more complicated than those???!?!). Then the problems just kept adding up. Like, every single time I went to try and design something or cut a project, something was wrong. Cutting was off, calibration was a huge pain (moved my machine to a better lit area and that helped), I HATED using design space on my iPad (the lagging drives me crazy), but then the Bluetooth connection was AWFUL when I tried using my Mac laptop. It kept disconnecting while I was in the middle of trying to set up a cut. So far, my machine only has a consistent connection when I use the iPad, so I've accepted the idea that I have to design on the laptop, then use the iPad to cut. When I brought all this up, my sister said she's never had these issues with her Cricut. I'm just thinking that what I want (speed, accuracy, usability, capabilities, reliabilities) is more aligned with one of the "nicer" Cricut machines. I need something I can connect my laptop to physically first and foremost, and I need something that isn't new so all the glitches are already worked out. Anywho, I'm going to keep trying and figuring out what works best, but so far it's been a let-down.
I received my JoyXtra with anticipation. It is noisy unlike my Joy, Maker and Explorer. Paid premium for the mats and it has eaten 2 of them already and bent the sides of them severely. I’m hoping it will grow on me if I can afford the mats. Love having print and cut and bri g able to use 8.5 X 11 paper.
I am really enjoying my Joy Xtra. I love the size because am away from home for 11 days and it is small enough to take with me. I already had the Explore air 2 which is also great which I will always use for larger projects and anything I cant do with the Joy Xtra. It is so easy to use just following instruction on my tablet. I will be using it as much as possible. The only con is not being able to use score. Thank you for coming up with this wonderful new cricut.

I bought the machine once we figured out software works great. I am having issues with the mats. Sides bend and the corners start to bend after a few uses. I have already had to change mat after a couple times.
I recently bought the Joy Xtra because I wanted a smaller machine with mighty capabilities. I am not disappointed. This machine is fantastic. I highly recommend it!!!
Perfect size and can do so many projects!! You can now do T-shirt size designs it’s like a hybrid between the joy and the maker, this little guy packs a punch and gets the job done!
I love this thing. I only use my air2 when I really need something bigger. I still love my first Joy but, I’ll sell it because Joy Xtra has taken its place.
