Sony could do much better

I just received the FMP-X10 last night from Sony and I am very disappointed. First, the free content they provide is fairly worthless (short documentaries, clips and trailers)...seems like they could have at least provided a movie given the price paid. Second, the unit has to directly connect to your TV eliminating your ability to use your receiver as the central control hub for your entertainment system (I have Sony's current flagship receiver the $2,100 DA5800ES which has a 4K input and it doesn't even allow me to feed and control the 4k stream through their latest and greatest device!..not sure what you would use the 4k input on this receiver for if it doesn't even work for Sony equipment!). Lastly (and most disappointing), only a few of the movies (and not the good ones) provided on the Sony Entertainment Network are available for rent versus purchase. So to access any meaningful content you will need to spend $30+ for each item!! For those prices they should have provided the player for $100. I am seriously considering sending this unit back to Sony :o(

FMP X10 will not work

I bought the FMP X10 and it would not even go into setup mode. I purchased the XBR 950B Flagship tv and the media player will not work with it. Now I have owned quite a few of their XBR TVs and this XBR 950B is the best of the best.. The up scaling keeps me happy but I am so disgusted with Sonys support on trying to get this media box to work I want to scream!. I wound up talking to support people in the Philippines for 3 hours, got disconnected 3 times and never got any results. Thanks Sony , I just bought a PS4, XBR950B, BDP 7200 BLURAY, and a FMP X100 that will not work. I have 3 XBR TVS in my house and this might be the last. How about helping me out!

Still no Amazon 4K app, Ultraflix

I am still not sure why this thing still does not have the Amazon Go app. It cant claim to be a solution for 4K streaming if it only provides only one of the available 4 or 5 4k streaming services. I am VERY DISSAPOINTED I wasted money on this over priced item.

I have owned the unit for about 2 months and so far the only new content has been one movie. It also functions very slow and needs a major update to improve it's OS.

WIFI Problem

If u do not have a direct connection to your router via hardwire ur out of luck with this. My router is upstairs and unless I run a 50 ft line from my router to connect this box Im out of luck. I called support and they told me to call my cable company. This device is not wi-fi and u cant rig it! However I got this free with the TV I just bought. I'm really upset over this and thinking about sending TV back with the Media Player. No wonder most reviews I read about this device are bad!

We certainly understand why you might feel that way. However if a wired connection is not possible due to the location of the router in your home a powerline adapter is a good alternative. If a powerline adapter is not an option due to environmental issues or a unique home set up, adding a second router would allow you to make an wired or Ethernet connection in a second room. For more information you may refer to the link below.
This was purchased to enable my XBR55X850A stream 4K netflix. While this was possible, the unit does not buffer. This caused the picture resolution to bounce from 480 to 720 to 1080 and maybe hit 2160 for a few minutes. I was using a wired connection with data speed of 30Mbps and NO other data transfer while watching. This is another epic fail on the part of SONY and only compounds my anger about how a Sony rep misinformed me that my TV would stream Netflix 4K.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Horrible Product!

Do not purchase this product! There are audio output issues with certain AV receivers. Just got off phone with Sony Support and they are aware that the HDMI2 output for audio to a surround sound system does not work with Pioneer, Pioneer Elite, McIntosh and Integra receivers, to name a few. There is no firmware update to fix this. And the 10 free movies that were included when I first looked at this product are a thing of the past. They are now giving them away free with huge discounts on 4K TVs. In my opinion, Sony has become an also-ran amount the industry leaders and this product just shows how far they have fallen.

I can't complain that Sony rushed into production of the 4k tvs but nobody twisted my arm to buy it. At least sony is standing by their product and sending someone out to update my tv so I can use it. Would you ever get that with cheap Korean tvs from the competitors like Samsung? Good Luck getting them to stand by their product like Sony
