We have a fire pit but did not like smoke. Bought the Bonfire to place inside the fire pit. The Bonfire is amazing - beautiful fire and flames, but virtually no smoke. Highly recommend!!!

Purchased this on a whim and boy am I glad! My wife and I can now enjoy a bonfire on our back patio without getting sick for days after from smoke. Smoke free, smell free, burns wood down to white ash. Flame catches super quick. Burns long and burns hot. Very satisfied.

I tried the Bonfire because all of the claims Solostove made on their website & I was looking for a fire pit to put on my deck, using firebrick as a base, of course! I was surprised to see how quickly the fire started with a small cardboard box that I used for starter & 3 logs! The fire burned hot and the fire was very controlled. No sparks, no smoke & it gave off a nice amount of heat. Perfect for a small gathering on the deck! I am very pleased with the performance of the unit and I would highly recommend it!

Works great right out of the box! The only thing I wish for, is a handle of some sort, to make moving it and get it in it's bag easier. I tried to fashion one, but didn't have the proper materials. It is HEAVY - and awkward to pick up.

Wonderful Concept and Product

After receiving our bonfire, we were very excited to give it a try. We were not disappointed. It is convenient, functional, and really just a lot of fun to use. The stainless steel actually adds to the experience of have a fire. The wood burned down to ash and it was very easy to clean the following morning. We plan to use it for many years to come.

First of all let me say how surprised I was at the size of the Bonfire. Yes we do have a fire pit that we use occasionally and I DID look at the dimensions when I ordered it but somehow in my imagination I visualized it being considerably smaller. This is a high quality product weighing in at 20 or so lbs, not something you are going to take backpacking unless you've got a mule or an ATV. It arrived well packed in a HUGE box that had my wife giving me the "what's he done now" look. The next afternoon I just had to try it out.
First of all, this is a wood gasification device, not a fire pit. Wood gasification stoves should be lit differently. First you lay your wood on the bottom and then you start a small fire on top of that. I screwed up and used the typical light a campfire technique with a little fire on the bottom with larger wood gradually added. It worked but I believe the top down technique would work better.
This thing puts out a ton of heat. (Warning, even though it's double walled this thing will burn the snot out of you once it gets going.) Once the gasification started, (you can see the flames from the wood gas burning around the holes inside at the top just under the rim), the Bonfire burned clean, clean, clean. None of the eye watering smoke blowing around. In fact, pretty much NO smoke. I was burning pieces of a deck we just finished demolishing; wet, partially rotted, nails, some paint here and there. This was the cleanest burning fire I've ever enjoyed. It was very frugal on the fuel. Much more so than the normal fire pit. (This is really good news as we go car camping and have difficulty carrying enough wood with us for a week long trip.). It appears that we will be burning about 1/2 the wood we normally do in a camp fire.
Cleanup was a snap. After it cools you dump a surprisingly small amount of ash out, gather up any nails, etc from the ash pile, give it a quick rinse with a hose if you are picky and you are done.
I look forward to many years enjoyment with our new Bonfire. While it is not cheap, you won't get better quality or value for your buck anywhere else. Thumbs up, up, up!

I ordered this stove after reading all the good reviews. I hate the smoke of regular campfires, but I wasn't getting my husband to agree to try it. I just did it anyway. After 2 fires, he is sold on it. We both loved the way it burns so clean and the beauty of it. Very happy we got it!
