Perfect for the Backyard

We fired it right up when it arrived and love it already. It's much larger in person than it looks online so if you're on the fence between this and the Yukon and think the Yukon looks a bit big, you're probably right. I will be back to order the Campfire stove so we have something smaller to take along with us on adventures.

We are full time campers and decidef the Bonfire was a good size. We have been amazed that it is exactly as described. I'm sure that other fulltimers will order after they enjoy a fire with us.

Outstanding product, but be realistic about rust

Just got the Bonfire and fired it up last night. Works as claimed. Easy to start. Gives off smoke like any other fire until the flames and heat build-up, then almost smoke-free. The secondary burn could be seen at the upper vent holes at times. Flames reach well above the pit and the radiant heat could be felt about 3-6 ft away. I'm very satisfied.
Now let's talk about the rust. Rust could be seen on teh bottom grate of the fire chamber after just one fire. Let's be clear, 304 stainless is no longer "stainless" after being subjected to sustained temperatures over about 1,000 deg F. Well-burning wood hits about 1,100 deg F and the remaining charcoal burns at about 2,000 deg F. This causes 304 to become sensitized to intergranular corrosion. This damage is permanent and corrosion will progress wherever the metal has been sensitized. Other alloys are used for critical high-temp environments, like exhaust manifolds and jet engines. Plenty of literature on the web covering this in more detail. It is unrealistic to expect the bottom grate of the Bonfire to last as long as the rest of the unit if it is made of 304. Knocking one star off an outstanding product for not making the bottom grate customer-replaceable.
