The pump of your dreams

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, but I would’ve purchased it regardless. I’ve always been a mom who values balance and multitasking especially with multiple kids (and a husband) at home. I’m already a huge fan of Medela products and this is my third pump I’ve used of theirs and it’s hands down (and hands free!) my favourite. I no longer need to dig out a pumping bra and worry about an additional thing to wash or carry around with me when I head out of the house. The output of milk produced from this pump is equatable if not more (maybe because I’m less stressed and overwhelmed about all the pump parts I need to put together) to previous models I’ve used like the freestyle flex and PIS. I love that I don’t have to lug around a giant base pump, it’s super quiet/discreet (I’ve tested it out while having coffee with my girlfriends) and did I mention HANDS FREE - I could actually drink coffee with my gfs and not have to adjust my pump every few mins! My only feedback is that I wished this pump was around when I had my first baby, but I’m so happy that Medela has put out this amazing product for all pumping moms who want that extra time back in their life.

I was so thrilled and excited to try it as my old pump just wasn't cutting it anymore. I am a mother to a busy toddler and 9-month-old twins so I need a pump that is easy to use and clean, effective and doesn't tie me to an electrical outlet. The Medela Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric Breast Pump is a dream and it is far superior to any other pump I have tried in the past. I love this pump for so many reasons. The pump is simple to put together with only three parts per collection cup and it is so quick and easy to clean. My old pump had six parts per side to wash and some of the parts were small with little crevices to clean so it took a long time to get everything washed. The parts on this pump are larger with no small crevices so it is easier and less time consuming to clean. I don't dread washing my pump parts now which is a nice bonus. I also love that this pump is hands free. As a Mom of three I don't have time to be tied down to a bulky pump or an electrical outlet. This pump allowed me to go about my usual daily routine while pumping due to its discreet and compact size. The collection cups were extremely comfortable and fit nicely in my regular bra and the pump fit well into my pocket. The comfort of the collection cups made me want to pump more often which is a win for me and my babies - I used to dread pumping before using this pump. I like that the collection cups are transparent so I can do a quick check to make sure that the pump is positioned properly and that milk is flowing. I was amazed that I was able to bend down to pick up my kids or clean messes while pumping with no spills or leakage from the collection cups at all. It was so nice to be able to pump without bulky bottles hanging off of me. This pump has allowed me tons of flexibility that I didn't have before as I am able to put it on and do whatever I want without limits whether that was going for a walk, playing with my kids, cleaning, cooking or just watching television. While wearing this pump I continued on with my normal day and would even forget I was wearing it at times. The pump is effective at collecting milk. The pump has a great and easy to use interface that shows battery life, how long you have been pumping for and the mode you are in. It only has a few touch buttons on it so it is easy to switch between modes and turn the level up or down. My only small wish is that this pump had a clip on the back to clip it onto your pants for when you don't have a pocket. It does have a nice adjustable drawstring at the top to attach it to your wrist which is helpful though. It was easy to carry and place on the counter or anywhere if you don't have a pocket and the tubing is long enough that this wasn't really an issue.
Overall, I cannot say enough good things about this pump. It was extremely easy to use, a dream to wash and it was effective at collecting milk. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wishes to pump.

Love this pump

Now with two girls I dreaded pumping because even with the Freestyle Flex, I had a hard time being hands free and getting anything done (found it awkward). Now I just pop this on and away I go! Super easy and effective, can use it whenever I want. Favourite feature is how discreet it is. So glad to have this for my second. This product was received as a part of Stellar Product Testing Panel but my review is honest and my own.

Convenient electric pump

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely loved the Medela breast pump. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump.
It was effective and straightforward to use. Being hands free while taking care of my little one helped so much. I exclusively breastfeed, and it effectively pumped a good amount of breast milk from each side (4-5 oz total).
Washing the parts was very easy, as there was minimal parts. Only thing difficult was when assembling, you really have to apply pressure to hear the ‘click’ to ensure the breast pump was intact. Charging the pump was very easy and I got a lot out of 1 charge.
Since my LO is eating more foods/fluid, I still pumped for those missed sessions. I’d pop them in my bra while making breakfast/lunch for quick 20-25 min sessions.
Overall, I’d give this pump a 4/5 stars for its easy and convenient use.

Great Hands Free Option

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this pump through the Stellar Panel to review. First off - I loved the hands-free pump that truly was hands-free and didn’t need connecting to my nursing bra with straps. The pump is effective and easy to use. Two areas that I struggled with a bit were the size (it didn’t really fit into my bra as it stuck out quite a bit) and that if I leaned too far back the milk wouldn’t drain into the collection cup and would leak back onto me. That being said, that was more of an issue with past Medela pumps I’ve used so this one is definitely an improvement! I’d recommend this breast pump for its ease of use and true hands-free model.

I would truly like to thank the design team behind this pump and buy them a coffee at least! The Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric Breast pump is everything a parent needs it to be - discreet and compact, has multiple different suction strengths, is a incredibly clever two phase system, and is super easy to clean with minimal style and few parts which are all.. wait for it.. dishwasher safe! I was given this breast pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and was completely unaware of the benefits of having the cups that slip into any bra compared to the older style with special pumping bra and bottle ends I has been using previously. I can pump anywhere discreetly and completely hands free. The thought and care that went into this pump is impressive. Not only are there minimal parts to take apart, put together, and clean, the cups themselves are clear so you can see expression taking place to make sure output is effective with cup placement around the nipple. The pump itself is so small and lightweight, making it incredibly easy to walk around with it hanging around my neck (hot tip - use a lanyard). Even the cups have a flat edge to place on a surface while pouring every last drop of milk out of the cleverly placed spouts. They truly thought of everything! The light up screen makes nighttime usage a breeze. The charge lasts for multiple sessions which is just such a life saver when I already have enough of my mind. Thank you Medela for another home run product.

Not recommended for an overproducer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel, and I was very excited as I had always wanted to try a wearable pump! I currently use a different electric pump that I like but don’t love, and was eager to try something new. I generally pump 2-3 times a day, but when my son was first born I was pumping about 8 times a day and could have really benefitted from a product like this at the time, as I felt like I was always hooked up and unable to move about freely.
I’ll start by listing the things I loved and thought were great about this pump:
- My favourite thing about it is how extremely easy it is to assemble, disassemble, and clean. It comes with very few pieces, which is really great if you pump on the go. It’s also very easy to pour the milk out when you’re done pumping.
- It is very comfortable on the breasts. There were times I hardly even noticed it was there, especially since it just sits in your bra. I would say it’s also fairly quiet.
- The pump unit is very compact and light, and the touchscreen is very sleek and modern. I love how it tells you how long you’ve been pumping for and what suction level you’re at.
- I would say it’s very effective at expressing milk for a wearable pump, and produced almost as much milk as my electric pump in the same amount of time.
- It includes an extra flange size (21mm and 24mm) instead of having to order one separately, which is nice.
- It does make it easier to do some things, such as walking around the house, cleaning the kitchen, cooking, or anything that doesn’t require much bending over.

However, there were a few things I didn’t love as much:
- The biggest con for me about this pump is the capacity of the collection cup. I am an overproducer, so a 5oz cup was just not enough for me. I tried to empty the cups halfway through my pumping session, but this caused milk to flood the membranes and I felt it didn’t work as well after that (and it made some strange sounds). This could be a user error, or maybe this particular pump just isn’t the best for someone with an oversupply.
- I also noticed that I still had to sit up straight while pumping (couldn’t really lean forward or back), since leaning too much also caused milk to flood the membranes.
- It is not the easiest to see how much milk you’ve collected and if your nipples are positioned correctly unless you dig into your bra, as you can’t really see much from the top.
- To me, the pump wasn’t quite as discreet as I thought it would be. I would say it’s quite obvious that I’m wearing it, as it does noticeably stick out of my bra (this may also be due to having large breasts to begin with). However, this isn’t a big deal to me at all since I only pump at home and never really around other people, but it might be worth considering if you pump on the go a lot. I was also hoping that I would be able to hold my baby while using this pump, but unfortunately it was too bulky for that (and the fact that it still has tubing meant he could grab at it easily which was not ideal).

I wanted to love this pump so bad. It seemed perfect for my needs, but unfortunately it didn’t really work out for me. It is certainly compact and did make it easier to walk around freely while pumping, but having to empty it halfway through, rinse it out and dry it, and hook it back up again really defeated the purpose of using it for convenience.
Overall, I do think that the size, portability, and convenience (for someone with a regular supply) does not mean that the product compromises on quality. It still works quickly, produces milk very effectively, and frees up your hands which is great for a busy mom. I would definitely recommend it for someone who does not have an oversupply; I would use it all the time if a 5oz capacity was sufficient for me.

Easy and Efficient Double Breast Pump

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Freestyle Hands Free Double Electric Breast Pump is an incredibly easy and convenient breast pump. I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. As a mother of three who has always pumped and breastfed, I would rate this pump highly on my list of pumps for a few different reasons. Firstly, it offers and efficient and quick pump, with the flexibility to double or single pump depending on your personal situation, to that end, I have never been able to efficiently nurse and pump at the same time, this pump allowed me to do so, without worry that my baby would kick it out of place or shift the pump. I attribute this to the pumps sleek and discrete size. Additionally, I love how easy the pump is to use and clean, this is a time saver and makes for easy use when travelling away from home. Lastly, this pump allowed me to complete a few more activities than usual while pumping; folding laundry, doing dishes are some of the examples. One of the things I wish the product could have allowed was for bending motions so I could clean up, due to the spout at the top of the pumps, it is risky to do any task that involves bending because you then risk having the pumped milk spill. I also wish that the string on the pump motor itself was longer, this would allow for a true handsfree experience because you’d then be able to wear the pump motor around your neck, as opposed to carrying it to each location with you by hand. Lastly, as I was first learning to use the pump I was trying to make sure that it was place correctly on my nipples and due to the fogged colour and design it was a bit hard to see, I would suggest making the breast cups completely clear in colour. Overall, I am very satisfied with the pump, it’s long lasting battery and ease of use, I have been using it over my other pumps since I’ve received it.
