My husband and I would avoid buying healthier foods like fresh fruits, veggies, and leafy greens because we'd feel guilty if we never finished them all and had to throw them away. We live in an apartment that had no composting resources readily available in an area with bears so the trash was the only option we'd ever have energy for. Now we're able to alleviate that guilt of throwing food out by knowing they're going towards making compost instead of the trash.
Like all Vitamix awesome machine very well built. Currently I run cycles 3-4 times a week with leftover banana peels, apple cores, variety of vegetables, some pet food, tea bags, and so much more. Trash has reduced a good bit and garden is loving it. I had tried composting but was failing really bad at it. I mix this in old stuff and it works awesome.
No odor outside the bin; running at very low sound level; easy open and close; the food scrapes become nearly like powder after the cycle, I just spread it over my garden bed.
After our Lomi died, we took a hard look at our options. We decided on the Vitamix mostly due to bucket size and the lack of a removable lid on the machine itself, but also the good reputation of the Vitamix brand. We have run at least 50 cycles so far and we couldn't be happier. Easy to start, easy to empty, and the result is always a consistent powder. We are very happy with our purchase!
This machine does all it is advertised to do. It takes a large bucket of assorted food scraps, and in hours turns it into a handful of compost. It does it quietly, and with no smell at all. I highly recommend if you produce a lot of food waste as I do with my mostly plant based diet and don’t have municipal compost pick up. It is expensive, but so was my Vitamix blender that I have had 10 years and use daily.
