New family traditions at the lake…

We’re a a family of 12 with the + 1s and have been told it’s the best pizza any of them have had. Just follow the directions for placement on the stone. We couldn’t be more pleased.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have only used the gas option and I love it. Gets up to temp in about 15 min and the pizza is done in 90 seconds. After a couple of pizzas I got the hang of it.

A bit too compact

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] You really need to figure out how and when to add wood. The pizza will burn or be undercooked if everything isn't perfect.
In retrospect i would have bought the karu 16 because the added space and more versatility.

Would Use 3x Times a Day if I Could!

Absolutely adore my Karu 12G. From the moment you open the packaging and assemble it (which is thankfully very straightforward) on an aesthetic level it just looks beautiful, and the instructions for the first cook are very straightforward to follow.
Firing up the unit is so satisfying; have only used wood and wax-coated natural firefighters so far and it starts up remarkably easily. Only thing I’d say is you do need a lot more kindling than what the instruction manual suggests (and you really need to keep on top of stoking it or the oven temperature does drop off again quite quickly). It’s so hypnotic watching the oven heat up inside though; the flames are beautiful and almost appear to move in slow motion.
First cook was a slight disaster as I hadn’t coated the peel with enough flour to enable detachment, so the pizza and toppings ended up going onto the stone which was difficult to scrape off/remove. Thankfully the second one that went in was better and tasted delicious. The transparent front on the 12G is a great addition and it’s so satisfying to see the pizza baking away so quickly. I’ve now completed 3x separate bakes and each one gets better with the next (top tip - semolina works wonderful for easy peel to stone transfer).
Cleaning afterwards is relatively straightforward. As you can imagine the main mess comes from the spot generated, but the fuel section contains remarkably debris (given how hot the oven runs at) so it’s not a big job. I also bought the cover to come with it which I’d highly recommend, makes the oven a lot easier to carry and protects it from the elements if being stored outside.
Overall it was the best decision I’ve made buying my Ooni, and I think the additional upgrades on the 12G are well worth the extra money. Could not recommend highly enough!
