First peak design product I’ve not liked

I backed this on the kick starter, and with hindsight I think I got a bit carried away. Basically it solves a problem I didn’t have in the first place. Using it with a Sony A7iii, and it doesn’t feel anywhere near as comfortable or stable as the old clutch. It also blocks the battery port, and you have to mount an additional base plate to use a tripod. All things that were known before purchase, but just really annoying in practice.
It is amazingly well made. Looks fantastic. Just not for me.

Thank you for the feedback and sorry for the frustration here! The A7III is a body that we tested in house and confirmed compatibility with. If you are finding that the fit & feel of the Micro Clutch is not quite where you'd prefer it, we'd recommend taking a look at this help article and the video linked in it for all the ProTips we have put together for install and adjustments to fine tune the fit for your hand and camera set up! https://pkdsn.com/mc-install-adjust

If that doesn't do the trick either, please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team at info@peakdesign.com. When you submit your request, please provide a number of photos and /or videos of your set up and the details of what is not quite working for you so that our team can have as much info as possible to troubleshoot with you!

Low Profile.Near Perfect - Great for smaller setup

My review on the PD micro clutch
Good
- Easy access to all camera features
- Small profile (not huge and overt), perfect for street photography to be less imposing (huge + point)
- Super easy slip in/out
- Easier to adjust than big knuckle covering grips
- Smart swivel design allows maneuverability over others.
- Sweat/water resistant material is also comfortable
- Mounting plate provides physical protection on camera base
- Built in tool is cool
Not so good
- Large set ups, above 3-4kgs puts all weight on 2 fingers only
- Mounting plate must be moved aside to change battery (20s more time to change battery)
- 7/10 confidence for holding, still strong when tested but time will tell.
My story; I have one big leather-holster one that goes over the knuckles with a wrist strap. I sacrifice accessibility of camera controls to use that, as well as its difficult to wear/take off, not to mention my palm sweats can soak the material during hot days. But my ~4kg set up requires that confidence and in exchange, discomfort.
This PD micro clutch trades the discomfort, reduced accessibility, size and possibility intimidating look of the larger handgrip into a friendly looking, easy and contemporary one. Everything is perfect from this angle - smaller setups, comfort first, safety next.
But the PD micro clutch feels less dependable on larger set ups, mainly due to the strap connecting to the top of the camera's body (its a button-in, feature, see picture 1.)
I have come to learn, in this day and age, we can't have a one size fits all. That's like asking for a 16-200mm, F1.2, size of your palm and below a grand lens. Impossible dream.
This does the job and even performs beyond with PD's trusted quality and guarantee/warranty. Its the only one in its size and comfort class yet it meets the needs of majority (near all) of smaller set up cameras.
I'm super pleased and asking more out of it, I will sacrifice all the good things that this micro clutch features. 9/10 product!

Shipping, product packaging, and the Micro Clutch are all exactly what you would expect from Peak Design. Detail install instructions made adding the L bracket Micro Clutch to my M6 MKII a breeze. Everything fits and functions as it should. Great work folks.

Nicely designed but with one fatal flaw
on October 27, 2023

I bought two Micro Clutches during Kickstarter for three cameras: Olympus E-M5 Mk III, Panasonic GX7, and Panasonic GX850. The units fit all three cameras fairly well: on the E-M5, it extended outside the front edge due to the tripod socket not being centred. It even works well on the GX850, which is actually shorter than the clutch base plate length.
These Micro Clutches are well designed and the magnetic tool is a great idea. But here's the one fatal flaw that prevents a 5-star rating: PD decided to use plastic nubs over spacing holes, rather than the traditional velcro. As a result, the plastic nub is always rubbing against my finger and it feels very uncomfortable after a few minutes! Give me velcro any day!

Great combo on a Hasselbad

I purchased the Micro Clutch with an I plate for my Hasselblad X2D and I love it! I never thought such a small form factor of a grip would handle a medium format mirrorless camera. I highly recommend the clutch!

Fits the X-T3 as expected

Got my I-plate version and so far I'm quite satisfied. It takes some time to get used to leaving the index finger out of the clutch, but other the fit is secure. I was a bit surprised that with my small hands I still can only use the outermost hole, but that is probably because I left the other end of the band as it was delivered. People with bigger hands might have to adjust the other end as well. That, or maybe I'm supposed to also leave my pinky out, but that feels very uncomfortable.
Getting to the battery is something I don't quite like, doing it when mounted on a tripod is impossible. That's the price of universality, I guess.

Not great on the Sony A7C and a no on Ricoh GR iii
on July 5, 2023

First of all, the build quality is superb, feels nice in the hand, it has a bit a weight to it. I have tried it on both my Sony A7C and Ricoh GR iii. It doesn't fit the Ricoh, base plate sticks out over the ends and I couldn't even get the triangle to through the eye loop and scratched the eye loop in the process. It fitted the A7C but the bottom of the base plate sticks out over the bottom of the camera and whe the strap was adjusted to it's loosest position, I couldn't use the dials and shutter button comfortably. I love PD products but sadly this one isn't for me.

Thanks for the review and feedback! We actually did test the I plate on the A7C and found it to work great if you make a few adjustments to get the fit right!

The plate sits far forward towards the lens side as a result of the tripod mount position on the camera being in an unusually forward position, but it should not be handing off either side of the camera body. The provided tool should allow easy install of the split ring without any scratching

There are actually three adjustments you can make to adjust the strap to better fit your camera and hand. First, the position of the pad along the band. Second, the position of the strap on the split ring. You can fine-tune the adjustment through the position of the plate on the camera.

If you want to shoot over a photo or video of your camera/hand set up to us at info@peakdesign.com we can have a look and help further as well!

For the Ricoh GR iii, as noted in our compatibility info: the Ricoh GRIII Micro Clutch I Plate works on this little beast of a camera, but it requires using a Peak Design Anchor (sold separately or with our other straps) to attach to the eyelet, as opposed to the included split ring:
