Excellent design but needs one tweak.

I received this through the Kickstarter campaign last week, and I’ve been using it nonstop. In short, I love it for its functionality. It’s years of use and feeling of security holding the camera. The only thing I would change about this is the plastic pin that adjusts the strap on the top part doesn’t have any padding and causes pain when holding for long periods. Hope the eventual Vii will fix is this issue.

Great product

Using OM system OM-1 with L-plate and hand holding Panasonic 100-400 lens.
It feels great in hands and stabilized.
You can charge the battery in camera on OM-1 but if you do want to change it then you need to unscrew the plate and take it off to access bottom of camera.
I would suggest to use 3 fingers(you can tighten or loosen it easily) to be able to get through the strap to hold the camera steady and comfortable.
Overall a very nice addition to the line up especially for mirrorless systems.

Disappointing

I like the idea of a lightweight way to keep my camera firmly in my hands, but this isn't it. I guess it depends a lot on cameras and hands, but using the Micro Clutch, my fingers are not in the same position as they are when I hold the camera. This twist of the hand pushes my thumb further to the left than is useful - to be able to access the exposure compensation wheel on the right - and feels awkward. Even though I have the Clutch tight, it still feels like I could drop the camera.
I'm using this on a Leica Q3, and there's a problem on the bottom. The screw, which you can loosen slightly to slide the bottom plate off, gets in the way of the SD card slot, so I have to take the screw out if I want to access the card. The way the screw tool is held magnetically in the plate is clever, but it's still a bit too much work.
Excellent design, as always from PD, and I can see this working with some hands and some cameras, but it doesn't work for me.

We're sorry to hear the micro clutch doesn't work with your camera body as expected! We tried hard to accommodate as many makes and models as possible but unfortunately, there are a few out there that just don't quite work. We'll update our compatibility chart accordingly and please reach out to our support team at info@peakdesign.com and we can assist with processing a return for you.

Here are some notes/thoughts from the design team on this particular use case:

The Leica Q3 is a brand new camera that has not been tested yet and was released after the MC design was complete. Unlike previous iterations, it looks like it has a separate SD card door that is very close to the tripod slot. The head of the adjustment screw (one or both) is likely too large to allow full opening of the SD card door. The door is also contoured around the tripod mount, which makes things even more problematic.

Not as good as the cuff for Fujifilm X-S10
on July 12, 2023

I purchased the L-plate to use with my Fujifilm X-S10 which at already has a fairly sizeable grip on it. Build quality as you'd expect is superb. This is a well thought out product that clearly took a lot of time and effort into the design process. Everything feels premium through and through. The installation process can take a bit of time, but this felt very secure on my camera once I got everything on properly. There's lots of adjustability in the strap to make this work with a variety of hand sizes.
Unfortunately for my particular set up, I didn't find this didn't add any additional feeling of security with my X-S10. I did find however that it had a tendency to restrict the movement of my index finger, making it feel a bit less natural to access the shutter button and other buttons on my camera. I wasn't a fan of having my pinky sort of hang out of the clutch as well, with the strap digging into the space between my pinky and ring finger. I overall felt less secure in my grip than when I didn't have the clutch on. I still find using the cuff, attached to my capture plate, to be the safest and least obtrusive way to add fall protection to my camera.
Overall I think if you're happy with the grip on your camera, this may mess with your grip mojo a bit and I'd recommend you just go with the cuff for that additional fall protection. On the other hand, I think the I-plate on cameras with minimal grip like the X100V, where you want to maintain that minimalist aesthetic and feel, would be excellent.

No for Fujifilm X-H2S

I bought the L-plate for Fujifilm X-H2S and the micro clutch is extremely uncomfortable. I cannot imagine using it. The straps cut into the skin between fingers. I guess the micro clutch may work only for small/light camera with a shutter release button on top plate. I don't have such camera to test. Well, if the camera is light, I probably don't need the micro clutch and I can easily stay with cuff which is much more flexible to attach/detach.

Great quality but not so design

First of all, the quality is very good. I like the way it mounts on the bottom of a camera. I can even put up with the difficult access to the battery.
But the strap is a pain. Literally.
1. The old clutch dissipates the load all over my wrist. The micro clutch wants to break two fingers - my camera weighs about 600g + lens 300 to 1000g.
2. The Nikon z6 has a pretty deep grip. I can't hold the camera the recommended way.

Solves One Problem, But Causes Another
on July 28, 2023

I purchased the I-plate and L-plate through the Kickstarter. I've done this before with their bags and their mobile creations, which I was very satisfied with. The Micro Clutch, however, attempts to solve a problem, but then creates a new problem. I am a female with slender, long fingers and I have been using the Gariz leather thumb straps on ALL of my Fuji X cameras for over a decade. So when I saw this Kickstarted, I wanted to give it a shot.
The Micro Clutch is well made as per usual by Peak Design. The problem it causes is the inconvenience of changing the battery. In the field, have found myself fumbling to take out the tool, maintain the screw, and then slide the plate while also managing a new battery while popping out the old battery. Often dropping one or all three. If you have arthritis or hand issues, you will find this design highly irritating.
Otherwise, the Micro Clutch feels comfortable and stable. The strap is a joy if you never ever have to change the battery on your Fuji. I installed them on a Fuji X-T4 and an X-30. It is a bit of an overkill for any X100 version, IMHO. The strap is very reminiscent of an old school Sony Handycam Strap.

Thanks for the feedback! Micro Clutch was meant to be as universal as possible instead of model-specific, so there’s no dedicated hole for a battery door. We opted for a universal design to allow users to re-use the plate if they upgraded to a new camera with a similar body style. Having a universal design also allows users to use a single plate across multiple cameras with similar body styles. Because some users will need to twist or remove the plate to access batteries or SD cards, we opted to make the tool integrated into the plate itself so you’ll always have quick access instead of frantically trying to fish a tool out of your pack or pockets.

Really wish it had worked out for me

Lovely high quality I’ve come to expect from PD. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get it to be comfortable with my camera (OM System OM-5) due to the camera’s tripod mount being so far forward. I had planned to use it with the Cuff strap and from the brief testing I did this would have been great if only my camera’s tripod mount location had have been central (front to back). If your camera has a suitably central tripod mount I’d certainly recommend.
