Love option of reducing bulk
on August 4, 2023

I love the microclutch strap for the extra grip on my camera and allowing me to reduce bulk from a neck strap. I have small hands and works great for me.
I use the I plate on olympus OMD EM10iii. Unfortunately the screw is not in the centre of the body so the edge of the plate is not flush with the camera body and sticks out. It works fine and if anything may provide a bit more stability when a long or heavier lens is attached. However I can see how users with same camera body might find the aesthetic bothersome and pass.

Love it!

I bought two of these, the L-plate version for my Nikon Z-50, and the I-plate version for my Nikon Z-fc. They fit my cameras very nicely, and since both of these cameras come with nice, thick triangular split rings, I did not use the ones provided with the Micro Clutch. (The Nikon split rings are thicker. There is a little plastic thing on the Nikon split rings that you have to pry off to allow the strap to go through more easily, but that plastic thing is not needed. It just keeps the triangular ring from rotating during use, which the strap also accomplishes.) I love that Micro Clutch is designed to be tripod compatible so that you don't have to totally switch accessories to go from handheld to tripod use. It also does not add a lot of bulk to the camera, so the camera doesn't have to take up extra space in a camera bag. I have small hands and really appreciate the adjustability of the strap to fit the user's hand. The numbers on the adjustment holes are really handy. I will say that the adjustment holes are a tight fit, trying to slide the holes in the strap over the little peg. That was the trickiest part of installation for me. However, I mostly consider that a positive. If it is hard to get the peg through the holes, then it will also be highly unlikely that it will come undone on its own. Plus, if it is adjusted to fit my hand, there is no need to ever readjust it unless I'm handing my camera over to someone else to use. I will be using this along with a Leash, Cuff, or Slide Lite strap for extra drop protection.

Skeptical at first...

At first I was a little skeptical of the usefulness of the micro clutch. After using it on one vacation, I am a believer. Gives your an extra layer of security. Battery compartment remains easily accessible (as advertised). Quality is what you would expect from PD... excellent.

Fantastic

Another really great little add-on for my gear. Super low profile and exactly what I was hoping it would be for my little camera. Makes it a lot less likely that I'm going to inadvertently test its ability to survive a drop. Beautifully made and solid.

Good product, but need some extra “hack”

The installation guide is just a guide, extra hack can be needed Personal tips: If you found the silicone sleeve is not perfect fit, try rotate the plate a little bit or try to install split ring even your camera have slot attachment instead of a eyelet, something magical can happen:)

Compact, lightweight yet sturdy

I have been happily using my micro clutch for several weeks now. The clutch helps to give me a very secure grip on my Nikon Z50. It's compact, lightweight yet sturdy. I had worried at first that it would unduly interfere with access to my battery and SD card, but have in fact found it so easy to rotate out of the way that I don't even think about it now.

Love this minimalist strap. Feels very secure. Easy to slide (after loosening with too) to change out the battery.

Nikon Z7 FTZ issue
on August 4, 2023
Posted by: dcap
There is a problem with the design of the L-Plate and the Nikon ZZ when using the FT adapter. Access to the tool housing is blocked by the adapter. The bottom of the micro clutch plate and the FTZ adapter are at the same level making it impossible to remove the tool when the FTZ adapter is attached to the camera. The only way to get to the tool in order to access the camera battery is to first remove the FTZ adapter from the camera, access the tool to loosen the plate and then you can get to the battery enclosure. The reverse process is to replace the FTX adapter, move the micro clutch plate to its ideal position, tighten the plate with the tool, and then slide the tool between the plate and the adapter. The magnet will pull the tool in place. This is not a good design - perhaps a future design for the L-plate would be to put the tool on the opposite side of its present location. It's possible the straight plate may be better suited but it would still have to be on in reverse orientation so the tool faces the back of the camera. The only other way around this is to carry the tool separately which then makes it easy to lose or forget and then you cannot get to the camera battery. This is a shame because otherwise it is a beautiful piece of machined work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Thank you for your feedback and sorry for the frustration here! We're sorry to hear the micro clutch doesn't work with your set up as expected! We tried hard to accommodate as many makes and models as possible but unfortunately, there are a few out there that just don't quite work or require a little bit of a "hack" to work most optimally.
A suggestion from the design team on this would be to he buy a spare flat tool and either pocket it or drill a hole on the very end of the tool handle and put it on your keychain.
