Mega Pokémon motion Gyarados

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This set is awesome! Not only did it contain all the Mega Pokémon motion Gyarados pieces , the instructions were easy to follow, and the end results are sooo adorable! :) We had a lot of fun putting them all together a few at a time.
Once assembled, it looks so cool and moves well, and if you're careful, none of the pieces fall off *lol* You must be careful not to apply too much pressure when snapping pieces together - particularly when attaching the legs to the body - or some pieces may fall off. They're easy to put back on, though, so not a big deal.

Really moves and really cool!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Product is really cool. It was more difficult to assemble than originally anticipated. It does come with a very large instruction book with pictures. Some parts were more detailed and easier to follow than others but we figured it out. The box itself is pretty big with lots of plastic baggies inside where everything is separated. Product is hefty with some weight to it. It's pretty cool. End product has a crank and it actually moves!

Impressive design and directions

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The design of this set is fabulous.
It comes with over 2000 pieces, but the directions are so well done that it isn’t overwhelming. The pieces are broken down into 21 bags, with each bag corresponding to the directions. For example, Bag 1 is shown in the directions, then a series of well illustrated, simple steps show you how to work through all the pieces in bag 1. Bag 2 won’t be shown until you have used all the pieces, and completed the steps for everything in bag 1.
This bag system means that you never really have more pieces out than the ones you are actively working with. It also breaks the whole build into smaller, easier to manage pieces. Complete a bag? That’s a great natural stopping place! I am *not* an experienced builder of these things, and each bag has taken me an average of 30 minutes, with a few toeing closer to 45 minutes.
I have praise for the illustrations in the directions as well. The team that produced this managed to show every vital angle needed for placement of blocks. When there are two blocks that are similar enough to be confused, the directions highlight those similar pieces with a green checkmark, specifying which one you need for the step.I’ll attach a of this to my review.
The set itself is also remarkably well designed. There were moments where I questioned the design; once I thought a moving part would catch on the surrounding area, breaking off pieces, but by the time I had completed that particular bag, the moving piece had been given support, and the play in the joint that was catching was removed. There was only play in the joint because I hadn’t completed the steps needed to support it.
I suspect there is a team somewhere that put tons of hours into designing this thing. It’s hard to imagine designing it all; both the look of the gyarados and the mechanical movement are impressive. Did I mention that it isn’t battery powered? You move gyarados with a crank, which I love!
Let's talk about what age this set is for. The box says 12+, and for most families, that’s probably correct. My 8 year old did not have the patience for it, but he’s never had the patience to sit and build *any* set to directions. But, if you have a child that has been building smaller sets, you will likely have more luck than me. Remember, you are only working with 1 bag at time, and a bag approximates the amount of pieces/time you find in some of the smaller sets.
Fair warning, there are some steps where you are lining up axles and holes. Getting the axles and holes to line up was sometimes a struggle for me, and I had to get my 8 year old for help! He prefers freestyle building, but I showed him the picture of the axles and holes, and he popped it all together! Those pieces weren’t all easy for me to put together, but if my 8 year old could do them for me, then it can’t have been *that* hard. I would like to add that he thinks the gyarados and it’s crank movement are “awesome”, and is excited to have it displayed in his room.
This Mega Gyarados is a big hit in our household.

Mega Pokemon gyarados

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Me and my granddaughter had a lot of fun putting this together It was something we could share because we both love pokemon And then it actually moved was something that made it even better We look forward to doing more projects like this together in the future bring the future to have some more grandfather grandfather granddaughter time this is something. This is something parents could do with their young children and they could both get something out of it

Fantastic Pokémon

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My grandsons love Pokémon. When I gave them this toy to build, they were so excited. Their family is in the process of moving to a new house, so they were not able to finish the toy yet. What they have finished is so durable and this toy has great directions for them to follow to build. We cannot wait to see the finished product. I would recommend the Mega blocks.

This is the coolest set we ever encountered!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This set is hands down the coolest set we have ever seen…ever! The build kept my son happy and excited the 2 weeks he took to build it. The colors are bright and bold and the facial features are excellent on the dragon. My son’s eyes would light up when the mechanical features were coming into play as he continued his build. There is so much play in this set. He has little men characters in the dragon’s mouth and the scene that the dragon is swimming through water mechanical feature is hands down over the top innovative and fun. My son plays with it every day after he gets home and he displays it on his desk in his room. The quality and stability of the set is really impressive considering all the motion. Keep up the great work on these builds, my son already made a list of other mega block sets like this that he wants for Christmas!! I’m very impressed as he tends to want video games…not anymore…MegaBlocks it is!!!! Thank you for showing my son a new world of age appropriate building that’s fun and gets him away from screens.

Truly a MEGA Pokémon Set!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Mega Pokémon building set is much bigger than we expected. My son loves Pokémon but with over 2000 pieces we were a bit overwhelmed when we first got it. Upon opening the box the pieces are broken down into 21 individual packages with over 200 pages of detailed illustrated instructions. There is a QR Code on the box that you can scan and it will show you a video of the finished product and how it moves. I like the fact that there are no batteries required and all the moving mechanism is through lever and gears what you put together. We haven't had a chance to build it yet but we can't wait to get working on it together. It will be a great weekend or holiday activity for the family to work on it together.

Very detailed set with amazing gear action

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 8 year old son and I have loved building this set together. We have not yet finished the set as it is complicated and is taking us some time. We don't want to rush our enjoyment of the set as we are loving working on it together. For the most part my 8 year old builder has been able to do most of this on his own even though it is listed as 12 and up. He needed some help with the complicated gears and rubber band steps. Sometimes the blocks take a bit of extra push to get them to lock into place. We found that it was good to test out the gears while we were building as sometimes it showed us that we had put something on incorrectly. However, when we added the waves and tested things it appeared we had done it wrong, when we actually had not. They seemed to be getting stuck as they were shifting. A tip for fellow builders - KEEP BUILDING and once you get the outside wall in place it will help hold the waves and stop the issue you may run into.
There are 21 bags of blocks and a HUGE instruction booklet to help you work through the set step by step. The head is actually built separately from the body (that is the step we are currently on right now). We haven't quite gotten to the connection yet, but I looked at the directions and cannot wait until we are able to put it all together and see every action run. My son loved just watching the gears as he was building. He learned so much about how gears work and about more complicated building sets through this set. It is VERY well designed with lots of details to make it look like the actual character.
