Not For Low-Step Bikes/e-Bikes

I had hoped that this would be the solution to a fairly common problem - low step bikes with fenders. The hanging racks won't work with low-step and the hook type can't be used with fenders. According to to Thule support this needs a crossbar for the clamps.
With an increasing number of low step bikes, especially e-bikes, being sold can we have a solution that has wheel trays and clamp onto the seat tube, seat post, headset or stem?

2 E-bikes on a Rav4

We carry a Trek Allant 9.9 and a Trek Allant 8s on a small suv. It was a little bit of a puzzle to load the 1st time. Once we figured out the right position of our pedals it has been awesome. I feel confident with 10,000 worth of Ebikes on the back. We do add a heavy chain lock if parked out of sight.

Good, bad and I’m not so sure it’s for ebikes

The good is the rack is sturdy and easy for this 67 year old to hook up to the hitch also the wheels do make it easy to move around. Bad is the ramp that comes with it was useless for the height of my SUV, which means I need to lift and hold. Not easy! Not sure it’s really designed for ebikes since the grab arm clamps have to be positioned just right on some part of the ebike frames or it will not hold ( ebike frames tend to be bulkier) it would be a trick to secure 2 bikes!!!

After a year of lugging my heavy eBike into the back of my SUV with my son-in-laws help, I finally decided to get a bike rack. After researching, I found the Thule to have the best features like easy of hitching to my car, light(ish) weight, ability to handle my heavy electric bike and wheels to move it my garage I purchased it. I could not be happier! I am able to not only attached it to my car hitch but with the help of the ramp I can also load and unload my bike without help. This has given me the freedom to ride whenever I want with out having to get him to help me. The sturdy clip and the wheel straps are easy to use and secure my bike with no worries of it falling off.

Built more for style than sturdiness

While rated at 130 lbs and the specifications indicated the rack supports ebikes, fat tires and up to 130 lbs , the carrier had excessive play at the hitch (at this price point I would have expected some type of tensioner or spring loaded type solution to minimize the excessive play between the hitch opening and rack insert ), and seemed to struggle holding my 2 ebikes total weight of 120 lbs. The rack tilted down from the weight ,and combined with the excessive play, I did not feel it would be safe to take this on the road. Also, despite saying the rack supports fat tires, the wheel straps were not long enough to lock down both wheels at the same time.

Very poor design

The bolt to tighten the rack to the receiver stripped. There is no fix for this small issue. The entire rack needs to be replaced. Ended up cutting off the faulty post assembly and welding on a proper 2" post (as did another person that I know). Really poor deign!

Nice enough, but caution needed

Nice enough double carrier, however, there are two features that are lacking in their designs.
One is that there is not a simple option for attaching stop-turn-tail lights.
The second is that the "locking" knob on the bike frame arm clamp doesn't really lock anything, but simply disengages the knob from the internal threaded component to discourage theft. However, that internal component is still free to loosen on the threaded rod and allow the clamp to unhook from the bike or fall off. Thus, until Thule comes out with an update, users may find as we did, that retightening every 50 miles or so is advisable.
The first Thule rep on phone blew me off, but second actually thought enough to understand and pass it on to design.

Hello Leroy,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing with the EasyFold XT 2. The problems you are describing with the locking knobs sound like they might not be tightened completely to the specified torque. The knobs should be turned until they "click" and then locked so they free-spin without tightening. Thule recommends checking the rack frequently during transit as vibrations from the road can loosen tensioning mechanism on any bike rack.

Thule does not offer tail light attachments for North American EasyFold XT 2 bike racks, since the racks are manufactured in Europe, which uses a different electrical hookup. The rack does have a set of reflectors to aid in visibility.
