An honest review

Easy to attach to car. Ability to easily fold and store..excellent. The platform is way to short for a longer wheel base bike. Straps included are not long enough for a fat tire bike. The cradle is not wide enough for 4 inch tires. And the clamps to hold bikes can be easily jimmied and sometimes will loosen up a bit

Really great bike rack, but...

It's a great bike rack. It's very secure in my hitch and the bikes are very secure on the rack. They are carbon fiber road bikes so I also use Carbon Frame Protectors. There is very little movement of the rack while driving. Everything locks with one key the rack to the hitch, and each bike's holding arm. And it folds up to a nice small size which is great as I don't have much storage space.
The only issue is the instructions are terrible practically useless. I found a really good video on YouTube which went through everything step by step. The first time I used the rack I watched the video several times. I think without the video I may not have gotten everything secured properly.

INSTRUCTIONS ARE DEPLORABLE

How can you produce such a great product that is so expensive and put such horrible user instructions? Seriously, no one at Thule could spend 30 minutes to write an instruction manual that included a full sentence? Pictures with arrows does not make for an instruction manual. Shame on you Thule.

Good and Meh

I’ve owned this rock for about a year now and there are some things I like but there are some issues as well. It’s nice and light and compact. A good thing. However the rack extends too far beyond the back of the car and once bikes are placed on the rack the weight creates a bad leveraging effect and the bikes will bounce as the car rides down the road. Hit a bump and look out! To make matters worse, there’s a bit of play in the mechanism, exacerbating the lose bouncy effect. Not recommended for heavier e-bikes.

My Bike Fell off
on September 10, 2021

My bike fell off the first time I used it. The clamp just let loose while I was driving 80 miles an hour on the express way. Luckily nothing broke as the wheel straps kept if from falling completely off. Did I do something wrong when I hooked it up? Please advise.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. I'm sorry to hear the Thule EasyFold XT 2 did not work as expected. As we discussed via email, some bikes require some careful evaluation of positioning, and may take some experimentation to find the best fitting position on the rack, and the best place to attach the retention clamps to the frame.
I find the rack to be easy to attach to the hitch and mount the bikes. The bikes seem firmly secured to rack. That's the end of my satisfaction. My disappointment and concern stems from the excessive lateral movement and bounce of the rack when the car is in motion. I have ensured the hitch is properly tightened to the point of no movement at all coming from the hitch mount and the bikes are tight on the rack platform after the "click", but the platform itself moves and bounces quite a bit when driving. I bought 3 straps to try to secure the platform from movement and it helps a little. However, for such an expensive rack expect it be far more stable. I am concerned using this rack to drive my bikes across several states for a vacation I had planned and only feel comfortable for short local rides.

I read all the reviews, so I was wary. l also watched 4 YouTube videos on this Easyfold XT2. Brand new Ebikes and rack for a 7 day trip. Day 3 one bike fell off. I am a checker! I checked the rack every time I got out of the car and again before I hit the road. I marked where the hitch went into the receiver to make sure it was secure . I marked where the tires should sit so make sure the straps were correct. I truly believe that the longer gripper came undone. I should have put the bungee cords on which I had with me. I believe the design is flawed. I have major damage to my bike. I’m hoping Thule will help with the repairs

Bikes fall off easily

Twice now my the back bike has fallen off the rack after the long clamp just let go. The first time I figured it was a fluke, but now that it has happened again I'm convinced it is a design/manufacturing flaw. This is too expensive of a rack for this to be happening - and I see from many reviews that it is indeed a common problem. My handlebar was severely damaged both times.
