Love the rack! Lousy locking cables though

Love everything about this rack but the locking cables. They’re so thin it seems they could be cut with a pair of scissors.

Easy to use, sturdy and with safe transport

We just received this a week ago. We've used it three times so far for two bikes. It is easy to get bikes on and to secure them. The built-in locking cables are useful as well, though could be easily cut with the right tool. I'd use a separate heavy cable if I was concerned. It folds upright easily when not in use, but as with most platform racks, interferes with the rear camera view. It is fairly heavy, so we found that it takes my wife and I together, to attach or remove it from our car (a Honda Pilot). So far very happy with the construct and usability .

Great except for one issue

I want to give the bike rack 5 stars, but just can't. There seems to be a flaw with the handle or internal workings, that raise and lower the bike rack. First, the lever to do this, is really really hard to push in. Whether it's in the "close position" or ready to load a bike, the level is near impossible to squeeze to unlock to the next position. And when I do get it to move, it is not locking into either position. Very frustrating. Maybe it's a quality issue with the unit I received. I don't know.

Ordered Two Separately, Both Were Defective

I've owned other Thule products in the past and loved them, but this particular bike rack was delivered to me with manufacturing defects right out of the box. One of the six screw holes during assembly was not threaded--rendering the screw useless--and one of the arms did not connect/fit into the center console because the pin failed to line up. I returned the product and was sent a replacement. Sure enough, the new unit had the same issue regarding the pin and hole not lining up. Thule used to be know for designing quality products, but after two attempts this is simply disappointing. I would recommend looking elsewhere.

While there are rigorous control processes in place, the large quantity of products produced means that there will be a small percentages of possible issues. It is unfortunate that these narrow odds resulted in two of your orders being defective, and is something Thule is determined to make right.

Cheaply made plastic version of 1-up bike rack

Thought maybe this rack would provide a new creative way to hold bikes but instead appears to be a cheap plastic version of 1-up bike rack. Surprised a company like Thule wouldn’t try to be a little more creative and come up with their own design.

I am selling the Helium Platform XT after three years of use. It worked fine for the first two, but then two of the arms broke around the same time. I've used a lot of hitch racks, but this is one of the most poorly designed I've seen, and I'm not surprised it's falling apart. It's a pretty flimsy cable attachment inside the arms and they started to seize up after a while, and the only remedy was to buy new ones. One of the cable lock keyholes busted from its plastic casing and it didn't take long for the rack to develop a rattle while driving. I won't be buying Thule bike racks any longer.
