I was intrigued by the promise of the Turbo to speed up the cook, at least for non-frozen foods. I do like the equipment, although being taller than the old Joule, it doesn't fit my case. The issue is with the new app. While it has lots of "Turbo Steak with this that and the other" recipes, sometimes I just want a quick temp and time for a piece of meat, like the old "Basic Steak", but with the Turbo timing. I don't like having to page through all the "Recipes of the Day", etc. As a result, I've only done one "turbo" cook. I'm sure that the app will evolve, but for now there is just too many "steps" to get to what I want to do.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What’s the big deal?

I’m currently cooking a tri tip using a recipe that’s not in the Joule app. As far as I can tell it’s not using any of the turbo features. The last time I cooked a tri tip (with my old Joule) I cooked for 24 hours. This time I’m doing 20 hours, but that has nothing to do with Turbo. Would seriously like to know what the big deal is. There are very few “Turbo” recipes available on the app and you apparently have to use a Turbo recipe to get the Turbo to work? Sounds like this is all just marketing hype and a way to sell more expensive gadgets. Not sure I’ll ever experience the so-called Turbo feature.
There is allegedly an auto pilot feature. But I sure can’t find it.

Thank you for your review and feedback. There are specific recipes in the app that take advantage of the Turbo function. For the recipes that take advantage of the Auto-Pilot function, you'll see a little airplane icon attached. The number of recipes for both functions will continue to increase. There is currently no Turbo or Auto-Pilot recipe specifically for tri-tip.

I’ve been using Joule for a long time. So when I saw the turbo, I figured, why not. When I got it, I was like ok, this is great. However, now I feel it’s a bit gimmicky. You call it turbo, but the turbo is a measuring stick. If you measure wrong by just a little, your food is undercooked.
The app is pretty poor compared to the original. Hardly any recipes, so I find myself using the old one more. Hopefully, they start putting together more recipes and simpler ones like the older version. Good luck; until then, I’ll stick to the old Joule and put the turbo in a drawer.

What Features? - It Doesn't Connect to the Internet

I bought this over 3 months ago and haven't used it yet. Every time I get it out to use it, it won't connect to the Internet or Bluetooth. I have 1 Gigabyte service and a mesh network with a satellite in the kitchen. Everything else I own (including my original Joule) work fine. What a classic waste of money.

We're sorry to hear about your experience with your appliance. We would very much like to see if we can assist you. We do have an account for you in our system. We'll be sending you an email shortly. We'll be happy to see how we might help you from there.
The app is horrible. I don't need recipes! The old app allowed me to very straightforwardly enter the protein, thickness, and preferred temp. It also allowed for a simple search. I find myself using the new turbo less and less because it's so frustrating. And, when I have used it, the protein has been undercooked. Also, the instructions were almost nil in the package!

The new Joule Turbo replaced an original Joule. The Tirbo is a step up. Connectivity is better and it seems quieter. Otherwise works about the same as the original. Made a fantastic tri tip, best ever. The code also turned out perfect.
Have not cooked a Turbo recipe yet. Probably because there are so few recipes. This was a disappointment. I didn’t know the Turbo function only works with certain meats. I plan to keep the turbo and gift the original Joule.
I probably would still have bought it even knowing the limited use of the Turbo feature.
Limited “TURBO” and missing guidance for some common items. Keep your old one.

Hi,
I just used my new Joule Turbo and I must be doing something wrong. I was planning on cooking ribs earlier today, but couldn’t because the timing was exactly the same as my previous (non turbo) Joule- 24 hours. (See pics)
So I thought to sous-vide 1/2 a chicken, then crisp the skin in the broiler, but there was no guidance. (See pics)
Lamb seemed to take the same time as the old Joule (8 hrs), so I do wonder, where is all the time I’m supposed to be saving on things I actually cook by using this new Turbo Joule?? (See pics)
It seems Turbo is only for steaks and some cuts of chicken? For pork, if I‘m cooking for one pork chop or less than 1 lb (I don’t have a kitchen scale) the guidance seems confusing. The app asks me how much my pork chop weighs??? I break apart my meats, season it, bag, and freeze it until ready for use… and have no idea what a single pork chop weighs. Why are you making this so hard for the average person trying to get dinner on the table?
Anyway, there are SEVERAL misses here, focused on two things:
1. The VERY LIMITED Turbo function- I use my Joule mostly for things that take a long time (ribs, lamb, duck confit). I bought this device because it mentioned it could help me cook “in as little as 1/2 the time”. Then I find it’s only proteins… then I find it’s only a very few items. NONE of them are the items that take 4 or more hours- FYI.
2. App- instructions missing for some common items (like a “Whole chicken”), also I imagine few people will have a scale to weigh food especially when cooking for 1.
Disappointed, but will continue to use in the ways I always have.

Thank you for your review and feedback. The Turbo function does depend upon measuring the item/meat being prepared. More Turbo recipes will be added periodically. But, we'll definitely pass along your feedback to the appropriate people, as we are continuously trying to improve our customer's experience.
