For a long time, I resisted buying yet another kitchen gadget, yet now I am so glad I have a sous vide. It makes for perfect steaks and pork chops - no more overdone or underdone meat, no meat that is seared on the outside, but insufficiently cooked inside, or meat that has dried out while it was under the broiler. It is really easy to use, the app is full of info, and is very user friendly.
Product is reliable and I do cooks every single day. Mainly fish which comes out perfect every time, even from frozen. But the learning curve is a little high. The app doesn’t always get the times right, at least for frozen fish and this created some very unsavory food initially. Now my only complaint is I do wish it had a controls on the unit so I am not checking the app to see how much time is left on the cook.
We bout this to replace an older Joule. Works pretty much the same. This one is advertised as “Turbo.” However, it’s not at all clear what that means or how to access any turbo features. Seems that it is simply a marketing gimmick to distinguish it from the older model.

Great hardware totally defective and unreliable software. New software has rendered my joule unusabl

B E W A R E great piece of hardware rendered frustrating, unreliable and now USELESS by their amateurish attempt at writing software, rendering my joule unusable.
I’ve been doing sous vide since i had to build it out of science experiment parts. Wore out an original anovo. Then i bought a joule. Nice, compact hardware, with ATROCIOUS UNRELIABLE SOFTWARE that couldn’t connect, disconnected and plain didn’t work. I worked around it often having to retry 40 or 50 times to get it going. I got used to that. Now the atrocious software is coming to end of life so they convinced me to upgrade to the new software breville cook.
This has rendered my joule UNUSABLE. I don’t want all your recipe stuff (nor did i ever want to) when the software doesn’t work at all. NOT EVEN POSSIBLE TO CONNECT SET TEMPERATURE AND TURN IT ON! And i tried on apple and android. Your new software has turned my great hardware and extremely poor software into a pile of crap.
I would like a refund, please contact me publically so people reading reviews can see how you stand behind your products.
I have company coming and don’t know how I’m going to cook dinner now.
Also, can someone recommend a good sous vide cooker that has a company that stands behind its product?
We really enjoy our Sous Vide to make the most tender steaks without overcooking them. We can make them so savory as well. If we happen to have a tough cut of meat we can use it to make it very tender. It’s very handy and easy to use!
This is my third Joule. When they work they work fine. My first one won't power up. I plug it in and the light doesn't come on and it won't respond to any commands. The second one stopped working on Wi-Fi, but was still usable using Bluetooth. When Breville decided to discontinue the Joule App I couldn't register that unit with the new Breville App since Wi-Fi is required. The requirement to use the new Breville App has now rendered my second Joule inoperative. Both of these units are out of warranty and they are not repairable. Breville offered a discount on this, my third unit and so far it is working fine. I am hopeful that the third time is a charm.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
