I was waiting for Lego to release a new X-Wing for quite some time and was pretty excited for the build. They missed the mark with this build. The panels are flimsy due to insufficient connection points. The use of rubber bands for the mechanical movement of the wings is a cheap cop-out. The bases used for the helmets are far superior than the base used for this model. The wings don’t stay up without assistance on the completed build. Every step of the build felt like this was a corner cutting cash grab. Do yourself a favor. Save your money and skip this one.
I have close to 50 Lego models and this one is by far the most frustrating build I have ever done. The connections are weak. Every time you get one side one and try to put the other on, the first falls off. Awful. I have the first UCS x-wing from 2000 and it’s better in every way compared to this. Don’t waste your money. I can’t believe Lego allowed this design to go to market. Very disappointed.

Disappointing and Too Fragile

I hate writing bad reviews, but the design on this X-Wing is pretty rough. The sides of the main body are held to the main central piece by two small pieces that pop off whenever you try and install sections around it. It added a great deal of time and frustration to building. The wings are pretty flimsy in areas, but that isn't the overall concern. It is kind of a bad design and I wish that there were more stability because I can't display it without pieces falling off as I set it up. For the price I had hoped it would be more stable like the A-Wing or Daily Bugle.

Thank you for your feedback, we're always here to listen! Sorry you're having trouble keeping parts of your X-Wing Starfighter™ together. If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build or if you find that any pieces aren't holding together as they should, give us a shout at LEGO.build/Service-BV so we can help.
Quite flimsy and the body next to the nose isn’t attached at all so it moves a little. The side panels are difficult to put on without the other side popping off. I haven’t done the wings yet so we’ll see. And there’s two pieces missing so far
This build was alright it was tricky at times. I do not like how delicate pieces were when attaching to the main frame of the ship which made it annoying. I feel as if it could be any sturdier it would have been great.

Flimsy fragile scratches

Major bummer. My title says it all, such a let down and disappointing. All the other reviews are correct, flimsy side panels, scratches on description plate and cockpit cover. Words can’t describe what a let down this was.

Some nice angles but overall flawed

Some points of critique: - angled and tapered nose is aesthetically nice from SOME angles, but not from the side, the side look, which is the main view angle if placed on the stand as intended, makes the whole nose and nose cone look way too bulky. Sloppy even. The nose would have benefited from more work and techniques to make it more streamlined and true to the original including making the cockpit sit at the correct slanted angle. - the model is too weak and flimsy. Mine literally just disintegrated sitting on a shelf. Especially the stand is too weak. For me the stand simply failed, which made the model in turn fall apart on the light impact. The plates on the sides, the nose, the wings just fell apart. As I tried to reattach the parts, even more of it came apart. - the whole build is too simplistic for an UCS model. Which also contributes to the overall weakness of the model. Few connections here and there holding a lot of it together. - the simplistic mechanism for the folding wings is not suitable for the weight of the wings. The wings droop in every possible direction. This I believe resulted in the designers trying to make the wings lighter by some very weak connections, but it didn’t do the trick and now the wings are just drooping in different directions as well as being weak. And the wings close so that there is a gap in between them. Which just makes the whole thing look like a bad and cheap knockoff. - the R2D2… why? Just why? It looks like a prank. It’s probably because a larger bodied R2 would not fit, but this off scale one just looks silly.
Overall this model feels rushed to market. with corners cut. And it’s not fitting for an UCS model. Lego has some amazing models with some amazing design that just impresses as you build them, the most recent tumbler, the icon cars, the large technic sports cars etc. but this model is probably the most simplistic in technique I’ve ever built and just somehow lacked the sophistication I would have expected of a model with this price tag.

Who let this happen?

This build is elementary. If you sneeze on it it will apart. Major pieces are held together by simple 2 piece bricks and it has no structure. Tons of spots are left wide open as if they were cutting costs. This should have been borderline Technic level for the price, instead it was like they let 10 year olds design a legendary piece. Sad.
